01Overview
Meet Vulpix
Everything you need to know about the Fox Pokémon — the creature behind the number.
Few Pokémon are as instantly lovable as Vulpix. The Fox Pokémon is small enough to scoop up in your arms, with a russet coat, a cream-coloured chest, big pointed ears and a crown of curly orange locks that always looks freshly styled. Its real showpiece, though, trails behind it: a fan of six flame-orange tails, each one finished with a neat curl.
Those tails tell the story of its life. Every Vulpix is born with a single snow-white tail, which gains colour and splits from the tip as it grows – first into six, and later into more still. The more tails it has, the more lustrous its fur becomes, and when a Vulpix is ready to evolve all six grow hot, as though they were on fire. Touch it with a Fire Stone and it becomes the majestic, nine-tailed Ninetales.
“While young, it has six gorgeous tails. When it grows, several new tails are sprouted.”
Pokédex · Pokémon Red (Japan), Green (Japan), FireRed, Y & Sword · 1996
Inside its body burns a flame that never goes out. On hot days Vulpix lets off the excess by puffing flames from its mouth – even in its sleep – so it doesn't overheat. It can also shape its fire into glowing orbs that drift through the air like will-o'-the-wisps, a trick it uses to catch prey. People who spot those eerie lights at night sometimes mistake them for ghosts, and it's surely no coincidence that wild Vulpix love haunts such as Lavender Town's doorstep and the slopes of Mt. Pyre.
It is a clever little survivor, too. Faced with an enemy it can't beat, a Vulpix pretends to be hurt, waits for its attacker to drop its guard and then slips away. Raise one from a youngster, though, and it grows as close to you as a puppy – and it's pleasantly warm to hold. The catch? Those luxurious tails turn into a mass of tangles unless you brush them diligently.
That blend of elegance and mischief has made Vulpix a firm fan favourite ever since it debuted as a Pokémon Green exclusive in 1996. In the anime, Brock doted on a Vulpix from Pokémon Breeder Suzie, and in 2016 Alola gave the fox a frosty makeover: Alolan Vulpix, an Ice-type as white as snow, whose bond with Lillie became one of the heartwarming threads of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon.
How big is Vulpix?

At 0.6 m (2′00″) Vulpix would reach just above an adult's knee, and at 9.9 kg (21.8 lb) it weighs about the same as a full 10-litre bucket of water – or a big real-life red fox. Alolan Vulpix is exactly the same size.
Evolution
Alolan Vulpix
Alola form · since Sun & Moon (2016) · Fox Pokémon
Vulpix are thought to have reached Alola at around the same time as the first people – but rather than squabble with the islands' other Pokémon, they headed for the snowy summits. Life up there remade them completely. Their inner fire gave way to ice, their type changed from Fire to Ice, and their russet coat turned as white as fresh snow, which is why older Alolans still call them by the traditional name Keokeo – Hawaiian for 'white'. Today they make their home on Mount Lanakila, Alola's highest peak.
The winter look is gorgeous: a snowy pelt, pale blue paws, blue eyes, a longer and more pointed snout, and six wispy tails with a crown of curls to match – look at those curls under a microscope and you'll see tiny ice crystals sprouting on them. Its breath plunges to −50 °C and freezes prey solid before it eats. Heat is its enemy, so on warm days it makes ice shards with its tails and sprays them around to cool off. Alolan Vulpix live in small packs called skulks, watched over by a Ninetales – approach a cute one carelessly and the boss may turn up and freeze you – while their great natural foe is Weavile.

Alolan Vulpix’s Pokédex entries
It exhales air colder than -58 degrees Fahrenheit. Elderly people in Alola call this Pokémon by an older name—Keokeo.
In hot weather, this Pokémon makes ice shards with its six tails and sprays them around to cool itself off.
If you carelessly approach it because it's cute, the boss of the pack, Ninetales, will appear and freeze you.
They live together in a skulk, helping one another. Before eating their prey, they freeze it solid with their −58 degree Fahrenheit breath.
It looks like snow come to life, and the breath it exhales is −58 degrees Fahrenheit. Another name for it is Keokeo.
After long years in the ever-snowcapped mountains of Alola, this Vulpix has gained power over ice.
If you observe its curly hairs through a microscope, you'll see small ice particles springing up.
These Pokémon live in packs in the snowy mountains and defend themselves with icy breath. I suspect this species changed its form to adapt to the frigid climate.

Base stat total 299 · 24 core-series games · 34 spin-offs · every move it learns, generation by generation.
Base stats
Vulpix's base stats have never changed: 38 HP, 41 Attack, 40 Defense, 50 Sp. Atk, 65 Sp. Def and 65 Speed, a total of 299 – a figure no other Pokémon shares. In Red, Green, Blue and Yellow it had a single Special stat of 65; when Gold and Silver split Special in two, Sp. Def kept the 65 and Sp. Atk dropped to 50. Speed and Sp. Def are its strengths, while its 38 HP is the lowest of any Fire-type. Alolan Vulpix has exactly the same stats. Its base experience yield was 63 in Generations I–IV and has been 60 since Generation V, and its base friendship was 70 until Generation VII and has been 50 since Generation VIII. It reaches level 100 in the Medium Fast group (1,000,000 experience points).

Sprites through the ages
Spin-offs & cameos
Super Smash Bros.
Vulpix has only made it into Super Smash Bros. once – but it brought a friend. In Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, both forms can pop out of a Poké Ball: the classic Vulpix fires off Ember, sending pillars of flame after opponents, while Alolan Vulpix answers with Powder Snow that freezes them. Both forms are spirits too, and their spirit battles share a lovely in-joke – each one pits you against a tiny Fox McCloud. The Vulpix battle takes place on the Saffron City stage; for Alolan Vulpix, a pint-sized Fox in a Wolf-inspired outfit waits on a fog-shrouded Summit.
Pokémon GO
Vulpix has been prowling Pokémon GO since launch day, 6 July 2016, and its snowy cousin followed when Alolan Vulpix arrived on 21 June 2018. Shiny hunters actually got the Alolan form first: shiny Alolan Vulpix appeared on 28 June 2019, more than a year before shiny Vulpix on 9 October 2020. Shadow Vulpix turned up on 3 February 2020, Alolan Vulpix got its Shadow form on 1 February 2023, and for Halloween 2022 Vulpix even dressed up in a Spooky Festival costume. Both forms have also taken turns as one-star raid bosses. Their big day finally came on 1 February 2026, when they shared a Community Day: evolve one during the event and Ninetales learned Energy Ball, while Alolan Ninetales learned Chilling Water. Either form needs 50 Candy to evolve and earns Candy every 3 km as a buddy.
Its Base Set card, Confuse Ray and all, is one of the cards you can collect and battle with in the Game Boy adaptation.
A Blue Field Pokémon: catch it in Celadon City, Saffron City or on Cinnabar Island.

Head for the Volcano on the Ruby Field to add it to your Pokédex.
A Shadow Vulpix is waiting to be snagged at the ONBS building – and then purified back to its old self.
A common piece in this match-the-Pokémon puzzler, turning up in Huge Storage 1, Endless Level 17, Pair Trozei and Mr. Who's Den.
Befriend it in Fiery Field; once it joins your team it settles in Darkness Ridge, a Friend Area mostly home to Ghost- and Dark-types.
Lurks on the long climb of the Sky Stairway, where it can be recruited.
Browser #171, met at Shiver Camp, Ice Lake, Hia Valley and Almia Castle. It lends a Fire Poké Assist and can burn away obstacles in the field.
Sky added Vulpix to the line-up you can play as – take it as your hero or pick it as your partner.
In Blazing Adventure Squad it is one of the Pokémon you can choose as your first friend, and it can also be found in the Fire Mountains.

Vulpix is a Snoozing-type Berry specialist that can curl up in an Ember sleep style; Alolan Vulpix is a Slumbering type that prefers to doze somewhere freezing.
Listed as #207 in the Pokopia Pokédex, which borrows Moon's spooky entry about its ghostly flames.
Moves
Vulpix started out as a fox with just a few tricks: in Red and Green it flicked out Ember, wagged its Tail Whip, dashed in with Quick Attack, let out a Roar, bewildered foes with Confuse Ray and finished with Flamethrower and a level-42 Fire Spin. Ruby and Sapphire gave it a properly spooky streak with Will-O-Wisp, Imprison and Grudge, Diamond and Pearl added the mystical Extrasensory, and Black and White brought the all-or-nothing Inferno.
Then Sun and Moon pulled off the biggest trick of all: Alolan Vulpix, an Ice-type cousin from Mount Lanakila that swaps every flame for frost, from Powder Snow and Icy Wind to Aurora Beam, Blizzard and Sheer Cold. Since then both foxes have grown side by side, sharing Nasty Plot while the snowy one adds Aurora Veil and Freeze-Dry, and Scarlet and Violet stocked a TM case more than 40 moves deep for each form.
Signature moves
The spark that started it all. Vulpix has known Ember from level 1 in every core game except Let's Go, where it has to wait until level 7 after a Tackle. Alolan Vulpix starts with Powder Snow instead.
Ghostly mischief from the very beginning: level 28 in Red and Blue, and on Vulpix's level-up list in every generation since (Legends: Arceus aside), as early as level 12 in Omega Ruby, Alpha Sapphire and the Alola games.
Ruby and Sapphire handed Kantonian Vulpix these eerie blue flames at level 17. It has stayed on its level-up list ever since (Legends: Arceus aside) and has been a TM from Diamond and Pearl onwards, a sure way to burn a hard-hitting physical attacker.
The classic. Level 35 in Red and Blue and never off the level-up list since, it has also been a TM from Ruby and Sapphire onwards (a TR in Sword and Shield) and a tutor move in Crystal and Legends: Arceus.
The fox's mystical side. Diamond and Pearl made it both an Egg Move (from Ninetales or Nuzleaf) and a level-44 move, and both forms have learned it by levelling up in almost every game since, Let's Go aside.
Black and White's fiery new finale: 100 power and only 50% accuracy, but a guaranteed burn if it lands. Kantonian Vulpix learns it at 44 in Black and White, 50 from Black 2 and White 2 to Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon, and 48 in Sword, Shield, Brilliant Diamond, Shining Pearl, Scarlet and Violet.
The snowy form's own toolkit. It opens with Powder Snow and builds up to Ice Beam and Blizzard, Sword and Shield added Aurora Veil at level 44, and Scarlet and Violet swapped its level-48 Sheer Cold for Freeze-Dry, an Ice move that is super effective against Water types.

Generation I · Red, Green, Blue & Yellow7 level-up · 15 TM/HM
Vulpix is a Blue Version exclusive in Red and Blue, padding through Routes 7 and 8 and the creaky Pokémon Mansion on Cinnabar Island, while Red players have to trade for one. In Yellow it is a prize at the Rocket Game Corner in Celadon City instead. All four games share a short seven-move level-up list: Ember and Tail Whip from the start, then Quick Attack at 16, Roar at 21, Confuse Ray at 28, Flamethrower at 35 and Fire Spin as the level-42 finale. In the first three generations a move's category follows its type, so Ember, Flamethrower and Fire Spin are special while every Normal-type attack is physical. The 15 TMs are a mixed bag, from Fire Blast and Swift to Body Slam, Reflect and a 100-power Dig. Three moves from Gold, Silver and Crystal can be carried back through the Time Capsule: Disable and Hypnosis (both learned by breeding) and the Headbutt TM.

This time Vulpix is a Silver exclusive, found on Routes 36 and 37 in Johto and back on Kanto's Routes 7 and 8; Gold and Crystal have none in the wild. The level-up list grows to eight moves, with everything arriving sooner (Quick Attack at 7, Confuse Ray at 19, Flamethrower at 31) and Safeguard slotting in at 25. Breeding debuts with five Egg Moves: Disable from Psyduck or Golduck, Faint Attack from Meowth, Umbreon, Sneasel, Houndour and friends, Flail from Phanpy or Donphan, Hypnosis from Stantler and Spite from Dunsparce. Crystal's move tutor teaches Flamethrower, and the 19 TMs add Sunny Day, Iron Tail and Hidden Power, though Dig drops to 60 power. Generation III · Ruby, Sapphire, Emerald, FireRed & LeafGreen (plus Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness)11 level-up · 18 TM/HM · 8 egg · 9 tutor · 1 event
Ruby, Sapphire and Emerald put Vulpix on the slopes outside Mt. Pyre, and LeafGreen (but not FireRed) brings back the old Blue Version spots. The level-up list stretches to 11 moves with three spooky newcomers: Will-O-Wisp at 17, Imprison at 25 and Grudge at 37, ahead of Fire Spin at 41. Egg Moves grow to eight, adding Heat Wave from Torkoal, Howl and Psych Up, and Overheat and Flamethrower join the TM case. Emerald's tutors teach all nine of Vulpix's tutor moves, from Body Slam to Swift, while FireRed and LeafGreen teach four and Pokémon XD five. Pokémon XD: Gale of Darkness also has a level-18 Shadow Vulpix to snag at ONBS; once purified it knows Charm, a move Vulpix cannot learn any other way in this generation. Categories still follow type, so Snore and Swift count as physical here.

Generation IV · Diamond, Pearl, Platinum, HeartGold & SoulSilver15 level-up · 28 TM/HM · 12 egg · 9 tutor · 1 event
In Diamond, Pearl and Platinum, Vulpix appears on Routes 209 and 214 when LeafGreen is in the DS's Game Boy Advance slot. SoulSilver has it on Routes 36, 37 and 48 and in Kanto, HeartGold has none in the wild, and older Vulpix can come over through Pal Park's Field area. The level-up list grows to 15 moves, with Payback, Captivate and Extrasensory joining in and Fire Blast becoming the level-47 finale. From now on each move has its own physical or special category, so Quick Attack and Payback are physical while Ember and Flamethrower stay special. The TM case swells to 28, adding Will-O-Wisp, Dark Pulse and Natural Gift. New Egg Moves include Energy Ball, Extrasensory and Flare Blitz, plus Power Swap in HeartGold and SoulSilver only. Platinum's tutors teach Heat Wave, Ominous Wind, Zen Headbutt and more, and HeartGold and SoulSilver add Headbutt, Pain Split and Role Play. A Vulpix from My Pokémon Ranch can arrive already knowing Energy Ball, and Body Slam, Double-Edge, Mimic and the XD-only Charm can only come from Generation III.

Generation V · Black, White, Black 2 & White 219 level-up · 25 TM/HM · 13 egg · 11 tutor · 2 event
Black and White hide Vulpix at the Abundant Shrine, and Black 2 and White 2 add a Hidden Grotto there too; the Dream World's Pleasant Forest offers a Vulpix that can know Heat Wave or Dark Pulse. The two games use different level-up lists. Black and White keep a 17-move list ending with Fire Blast at 54, with the new Flame Burst at 24 and the fearsome Inferno at 44 (moves marked N/A cannot be learned there). Black 2 and White 2 reshuffle it into 19 moves, slipping in Faint Attack and Hex and saving Inferno for a level-50 finale. Fire Spin now hits for 35 power, and Flame Charge, Incinerate, Round and Energy Ball arrive as TMs. Hex, Secret Power (from Smeargle) and Tail Slap (from Minccino or Cinccino) join the Egg Moves. Black and White have no tutor moves for Vulpix; Black 2 and White 2's tutors teach 11, including Foul Play, Heat Wave, Dark Pulse and Iron Tail.

Generation VI · X, Y, Omega Ruby & Alpha Sapphire20 level-up · 29 TM/HM · 14 egg · 9 tutor
X and Y have no wild Vulpix at all, so players have to breed one from a Ninetales or trade for it; Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire bring it back to Mt. Pyre and the Mirage Forest north of Route 124. Both pairs add the Fairy-type Baby-Doll Eyes at level 9 and spell the old Faint Attack as Feint Attack. X and Y follow the Black 2 and White 2 list, while Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire reshuffle it: Confuse Ray moves up to 12, Will-O-Wisp to 20 and Flamethrower to 36, with Imprison pushed back to 39. Hex now hits for 65 power, Flamethrower for 90 and Fire Blast for 110. Captivate becomes an Egg Move, Dark Pulse returns as TM97 and Confide arrives as TM100, while Secret Power is TM94 in Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire only. Only Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire have tutor moves for Vulpix: nine of them, including Foul Play, Heat Wave and Zen Headbutt.

Generation VII · Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun & Ultra Moon20 level-up · 26 TM/HM · 14 egg · 9 tutor · + Alolan Vulpix
Alola has a Vulpix of its own. The familiar Fire-type Vulpix only reaches Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon through Pokémon Bank, while the Ice-type Alolan Vulpix lives on snowy Mount Lanakila and in Tapu Village in Sun and Ultra Sun, so Moon and Ultra Moon players need to trade for one. Kantonian Vulpix keeps the Omega Ruby and Alpha Sapphire level-up list exactly. Alolan Vulpix follows the same shape level for level but swaps every flame for frost: Powder Snow instead of Ember, Ice Shard instead of Quick Attack, then Icy Wind, Mist, Aurora Beam, Ice Beam, Blizzard and a level-50 Sheer Cold where Fire Spin, Will-O-Wisp, Flame Burst, Flamethrower, Fire Blast and Inferno used to be. Its TMs trade the fire moves and Energy Ball for Hail, Ice Beam, Blizzard, Rain Dance, Aurora Veil and Frost Breath, and its Egg Moves include Agility, Charm, Encore, Moonblast and Freeze-Dry (which needs chain breeding). Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon's tutors teach Kantonian Vulpix nine moves and Alolan Vulpix eleven, swapping Heat Wave for Aqua Tail, Heal Bell and Icy Wind; Sun and Moon have no tutor moves for either form. A Pokémon Center Sapporo Alolan Vulpix came with Celebrate, and 17 older moves, from Dig to Skull Bash, can only be brought in by Kantonian Vulpix from earlier generations.

Pokémon: Let's Go, Pikachu! and Let's Go, Eevee! · Let's Go, Pikachu! & Let's Go, Eevee!10 level-up · 14 TM/HM · + Alolan Vulpix
Both Vulpix are Let's Go, Eevee! exclusives. Kantonian Vulpix lives on Routes 5, 6, 7 and 8, and in Celadon City a trainer will swap an Alolan Vulpix for one of them; Let's Go, Pikachu! has neither. Both forms share a brisk 10-move list that starts with Tackle and Tail Whip and ends at level 31. Kantonian Vulpix gets Ember at 7, Will-O-Wisp at 17 and Flamethrower at 24 before a Fire Blast finale, while Alolan Vulpix learns Mist at 7, Ice Shard at 10, Aurora Beam at 17, the Fairy-type Dazzling Gleam at 21 and Ice Beam at 24 before finishing with Blizzard. Each form can use 14 TMs: 11 shared, plus Will-O-Wisp, Flamethrower and Fire Blast for Kantonian Vulpix or Dazzling Gleam, Blizzard and Ice Beam for Alolan Vulpix. There is no breeding in these games and Vulpix has no tutor moves.

Generation VIII · Sword & Shield (incl. Expansion Pass), Brilliant Diamond & Shining Pearl16 level-up · 57 TM/HM · 20 egg · 1 tutor · + Alolan Vulpix
Kantonian Vulpix roams much of Sword's Wild Area, from Rolling Fields and Dappled Grove to the shores of Lake Axewell and Lake Miloch, and joins Max Raid Battles there; Shield players find it only at Dusty Bowl and Hammerlocke Hills, and a single Vulpix turns up as part of the Gym Challenge at Motostoke Stadium. Alolan Vulpix has to be traded into Sword and Shield, or earned with the Expansion Pass as a reward for finding at least 20 Alolan Diglett on the Isle of Armor. In Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, Vulpix is a Shining Pearl exclusive in the Grand Underground's Spacious, Volcanic and Sandsear Caves and Typhlo Cavern once you have the National Pokédex; Alolan Vulpix cannot be obtained there. One tidy level-up list, a new move every four levels up to Fire Blast at 56, covers all four games, with Disable, Spite and Incinerate joining in. Alolan Vulpix's matching list adds Aurora Veil at 44 and keeps Sheer Cold at 48 before a Blizzard finale. Sword and Shield teach their machines as TMs and TRs, bringing Mystical Fire, Weather Ball and Power Swap for Kantonian Vulpix and Charm, Draining Kiss and Icy Wind for Alolan Vulpix, while Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl go back to a Sinnoh-style list of 22 TMs. Egg Moves are listed separately for Sword and Shield (with Baby-Doll Eyes, Flame Charge, Memento and Roar new) and for Brilliant Diamond and Shining Pearl, and the Expansion Pass tutor teaches Kantonian Vulpix Burning Jealousy. A few older moves on the transfer lists, such as Return, Frustration and Hidden Power, cannot be used in Sword and Shield.

Pokémon Legends: Arceus · Legends: Arceus8 level-up · 10 tutor · + Alolan Vulpix
Both forms appear in Legends: Arceus. Kantonian Vulpix lives at Veilstone Cape in the Cobalt Coastlands and turns up in massive mass outbreaks in the Cobalt Coastlands and Alabaster Icelands, while a single Alolan Vulpix appears in Whiteout Valley in the Alabaster Icelands during Request 83. Moves work differently here: each has a level at which it is learned and a higher level at which it is mastered, unlocking strong and agile styles, and PP totals are lower. Each form learns eight moves, sharing Quick Attack and Nasty Plot: Kantonian Vulpix adds Flame Wheel, Hex, Extrasensory, Flamethrower and Fire Blast, and Alolan Vulpix the Fairy-type Draining Kiss and Dazzling Gleam plus Ice Fang, Ice Beam and Blizzard. The move tutor offers ten more to Kantonian Vulpix, including Mystical Fire and Ominous Wind, and eleven to Alolan Vulpix, including Icy Wind and Ice Fang. There are no TMs and no breeding. Power is listed for normal, strong and agile style, and accuracy for normal and strong style.

Generation IX · Scarlet & Violet (Version 2.0.1+ and The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero)15 level-up · 41 TM/HM · 8 egg · 2 event · + Alolan Vulpix
Scarlet and Violet accept Vulpix by trade from Version 2.0.1, and The Hidden Treasure of Area Zero gives both forms a home. Kantonian Vulpix pads all over Kitakami in The Teal Mask, from Reveler's Road and Oni Mountain to Paradise Barrens and the Timeless Woods, and appears in 2★ Tera Raid Battles. Alolan Vulpix roams the Polar Biome and Chargestone Cavern of Blueberry Academy's Terarium in The Indigo Disk in Scarlet, while Violet players can meet it through the Union Circle or a 3★ Tera Raid Battle search. Neither form appears in Legends: Z-A. Both level-up lists now end at level 52: Kantonian Vulpix drops Grudge and closes with Fire Blast, and Alolan Vulpix swaps Grudge and Sheer Cold for a level-48 Freeze-Dry before its Blizzard finale. The TM case swells to 41 moves for Kantonian Vulpix and 43 for Alolan Vulpix, with Nasty Plot, Helping Hand, Baton Pass and Tera Blast for both, Burning Jealousy and Flare Blitz for the fire fox, and Play Rough, Misty Terrain and Icicle Spear for the snowy one. Kantonian Vulpix can only pick up the Egg Move Healing Wish with a Mirror Herb, and a wild Terastallized Vulpix on Reveler's Road can know Baby-Doll Eyes and Hypnosis. There are no tutor moves.

Vulpix in the anime
Debut EP028Pokémon Fashion Flash · Its appearances on screen, and 6 other trainers who raised one.
Vulpix strutted into the anime as a beauty queen with a temper. Its debut, Pokémon Fashion Flash (EP028), introduced the breeder Suzie's immaculately groomed fox, which flamed Misty for touching it, fell for Brock's cooking and blasted Team Rocket away with Fire Spin before joining Brock's team. For the next three years it was the best-brushed Pokémon in the group, from the Princess Festival and the ruins of Pokémopolis to Johto and the Hale mansion, until Brock handed it back to Suzie after the Bonitaville Beauty Contest in Beauty and the Breeder (EP169).
Ash has never owned one, but Vulpix came back in a big way in Sun & Moon. Lillie's Alolan Vulpix, Snowy, hatched from the white Egg she volunteered to raise, caught itself in her Poké Ball and became the first Pokémon she could hold, then learned Aurora Veil on Mount Lanakila and fired off Subzero Slammer at the Manalo Conference. On the very same day Snowy was caught, Samson Oak's Egg hatched into a classic red Vulpix, while the species keeps turning up everywhere else too: in the Pokémon Contests, at Pokémon Centers and in the movies, and as the long-lost partner of a pirate in Mystery on a Deserted Island! (BW135).

First seen: SM008Lillie's Egg-xhilarating Challenge!
Now: With Lillie
Snowy's story begins before it had even hatched. In Lillie's Egg-xhilarating Challenge! (SM008) Principal Samson Oak shows the class two Eggs, one that Ash brought from Kanto and one found on Mount Lanakila. Lillie, who is afraid to touch Pokémon and can't remember why, chooses the white one because she likes its design, and Mallow suggests taking it home to help her conquer that fear. Lillie names it Snowy. When a hungry Salandit creeps up on it at her home, she throws her arms around the Egg without a second thought, while Ash, Pikachu, Rowlet and Hobbes's Oricorio chase the intruder off.
The Egg hatches into an Alolan Vulpix the day after the Pokémon Pancake Race (SM013), and in Getting to Know You! (SM014) the class agrees that Lillie should be its Trainer. Her nervous Poké Ball throw bounces off Ash's head, so Snowy presses the button and catches itself. Samson Oak's Egg hatches the same day into a red Vulpix from Kanto, and when Snowy's Powder Snow freezes Ash, the newcomer's Ember thaws him out. On the walk home Team Rocket corner the pair: Snowy turns the pavement into an ice rink and stops one of Mareanie's Sludge Bombs, but a second one knocks it over a wall. Lillie jumps straight after it and catches it in mid-air, with Rowlet's Leafage slowing their fall. At last she is holding a Pokémon.
Snowy was devoted to Lillie and wary of everyone else, until Professor Kukui's partner swap in The Ol' Raise and Switch! (SM030). Left with Ash for the weekend, it refuses its food and freezes him solid when he approaches at night. A walk, a Sitrus Berry from Litten and a training session on the beach change everything, and its Powder Snow freezes the rocks and the waves. Lillie, meanwhile, learns to touch Pikachu and wins her first battle with it, and the weekend ends with Ash and Snowy squaring up to Lillie and Pikachu.
As Lillie found her feet as a Trainer, Snowy grew with her. When the class visits Kanto, Snowy and Sophocles's Togedemaru take on Brock's Geodude, whose Gyro Ball deflects Powder Snow before the match is called off (SM043), so Snowy gets to meet the man who once raised a Vulpix of his own. When Nihilego carries Lusamine away, Lillie and Gladion set out to save her, and on Poni Island Snowy and Silvally see off a totem Kommo-o and its Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o allies (SM051). In the rescue itself it fights beside Ash's Lycanroc against Lusamine's Clefable, turned against them by Nihilego, until Lillie's embrace and their shared memories set it free (SM053).
Snowy's Egg was found on Mount Lanakila, and the mountain is where it learned its showiest trick. In Getting a Jump on the Competition! (SM060) it bounds off after an Alolan Ninetales and leads Lillie to the PokéSled star Cerah, who once had to overcome her own fear of jumping with her Vulpix. Already able to call up Hail, Snowy practises until sunset to master Aurora Veil, and in the Sled Jump Games it saves Lillie's landing when a gust of wind throws her off course. Hala and Crabominable take the prize, but Lillie and Snowy fly.
In an ice cave in Not Caving Under Pressure! (SM080), Lillie takes on a Double Battle, teaming Snowy with a band of wild Alolan Sandshrew against a Tyranitar that has been claiming their home. Hail, Aurora Veil and Powder Snow help send it running, and the newly evolved Sandslash rewards Lillie with an Icium Z. When she offers Snowy an Ice Stone, though, it shrinks away, and Lillie decides it is not ready to evolve.
Lillie and Snowy pull off Subzero Slammer for the first time in a backyard practice session, with Lillie focusing on her father's words (SM127). At the Manalo Conference, Snowy's Powder Snow freezes a Salamence in the Battle Royal and Lillie reaches the main tournament (SM129), only to draw her brother in the first round. Snowy vanishes into its own Hail thanks to Snow Cloak, raises an Aurora Veil and hits Gladion's Umbreon with Subzero Slammer, but Umbreon survives and lands a super-effective Iron Tail to win (SM131). Lusamine tells both her children how proud she is of them.
Snowy has not evolved, and it is still with Lillie. In Pokémon Journeys it appears as Lana reads out a letter from Lillie about the search for her missing father, Mohn (JN037). The hunt ends in Galar's Crown Tundra in The Homecoming Crown! (JN111), where the family finds Mohn and helps him get his memories back. They sail home to Alola with Ash, Goh and Chloe for Mohn's homecoming feast on Melemele Island (JN112), and Snowy is watching when Ash takes on Leon in the final of the Masters Eight Tournament (JN131, JN132).
Personality
Snowy is fiercely loyal to Lillie and, at first, to Lillie alone. As a newborn it froze Ash the moment he came near, and it took a weekend in his care before it relaxed around other people. It has a mind of its own and often charges in to help whether help is wanted or not. It loves walks, pancakes and yoghurt, can't stand spicy food, and never strays far from Lillie when she is frightened. Its one big fear is evolution: offered an Ice Stone, it shrank away, and Lillie let it stay a Vulpix.

Now: Back with its original owner, Suzie
Every Brock fan knows how this one started: with a crush. On Scissor Street, the breeders' district, Brock drags Ash and Misty to the salon of his idol Suzie, a champion breeder, and begs to become her apprentice (EP028). Her Vulpix is a picture of elegance with a short fuse. It torches Misty for daring to cuddle it, then astonishes Suzie by eating Brock's home-made Pokémon food, when normally it touches nothing she hasn't made. After its Fire Spin blasts Team Rocket off their Salon Roquet battling platform, Suzie decides to travel and learn more, and hands Vulpix to the one person besides herself it has warmed to. Brock catches it simply by opening a Poké Ball beside it.
From then on Vulpix was the best-groomed traveller in Kanto. Brock is forever brushing its coat, which irritates Misty so much that, fed up with Psyduck's headaches, she offers to swap Psyduck for Vulpix at a waterfall on the way to Fuchsia City. Brock says no (EP032). At the Eevee brothers' party Pyro offers him a Fire Stone to evolve it, and he turns that down too (EP040). Vulpix's first proper battle under Brock is a quick one: when Jessie's Arbok and James's Weezing bully a Dark City restaurant owner, one Flamethrower drives them out of the door and catches the eye of a recruiter from the Yas Gym (EP042).
Vulpix also proved a generous team-mate. Misty borrows it for the Queen of the Princess Festival tournament, where its Flamethrower beats a Tangela on the way to the final, but Jessie's freshly caught Lickitung licks Pikachu, Bulbasaur and Vulpix into submission one after another until Psyduck saves the day (EP052). In Mewtwo Strikes Back it is snatched by one of Mewtwo's Poké Balls and copied, and its clone joins the great brawl between the originals and their copies (M01). It even tries showbusiness: it dances through the first round of auditions for Cleavon Schpielbunk's film Pokémon in Love, then trudges off the stage with Pikachu and Raichu once the prima-donna Wigglytuff takes over (EP069).
Brock sometimes used Vulpix as a sparring partner for Pikachu. In The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis (EP072) the two are about to trade Flamethrower and Thunderbolt when Jigglypuff wanders between them; the redirected attacks blow apart a rock face and reveal the entrance to a buried temple. When Brock stays behind with Professor Ivy in Poké Ball Peril (EP083), Vulpix stays with him, and by the time he is back in Pallet Town (EP115) it is ready for Johto, where it is shown off to the children at Earl's Pokémon academy (EP130).
Johto brought tougher opponents. On an old mountain bridge Miki asks Brock for a Fire type to test her Skarmory against, and Vulpix is his only one: its Flamethrower meets thin air as Skarmory's Agility carries it clear, and a Steel Wing knocks Vulpix out in a single exchange (EP152). In Spell of the Unown, after Zubat falls to Molly Hale's Flaaffy, Vulpix lands on its feet after a Dynamic Punch from her illusory Teddiursa and trades Quick Attacks with its Fury Swipes, but collapses after their last clash (M03). It still plays its part, adding its Flamethrower to Cyndaquil's to burn a hole in the crystal sealing the mansion's garden house.
The goodbye came in Beauty and the Breeder (EP169). Suzie e-mails Brock asking to borrow Vulpix for the Pokémon Beauty Contest in Bonitaville, and Vulpix races ahead to find her the moment they arrive. There Brock meets Zane, Suzie's rival since nursery school, and his Ninetales. Team Rocket, disguised as doctors, lock the contestants' Pokémon in a container and try to float away with it, and once the Pokémon are free, Vulpix and Ninetales combine a Flamethrower and then a Fire Spin to send the trio flying. Seeing how well the two fit together, Brock admits he always knew Vulpix was never really his, and that he had only been looking after it. He leaves it with Suzie, who plans a joint salon with Zane. Vulpix's last appearance with Brock is a flashback in Gotta Catch Ya Later! (EP273).
Personality
Brock's Vulpix is a diva with a soft centre. It is choosy about food, wary of strangers and quick to show its temper, as Misty learned the hard way when she picked it up uninvited and got a Flamethrower for her trouble. Yet it took to Brock straight away, adores being brushed, and behind the immaculate coat sits real firepower: more than once a single blast was enough to send Team Rocket packing.

First seen: EP028Pokémon Fashion Flash
Suzie is a celebrated breeder who believes that true beauty starts on the inside, and her Vulpix is living proof: a perfectly groomed fox with a fierce Fire Spin. In Pokémon Fashion Flash (EP028) her quiet salon is losing customers to the flashy Salon Roquet until Vulpix blasts its Team Rocket owners away; she then sets off to study breeding and leaves Vulpix in Brock's care. She calls it back for the Bonitaville Beauty Contest in Beauty and the Breeder (EP169), where Vulpix and her childhood rival Zane's Ninetales fight side by side, Zane concedes that beauty must be inside and out, and Brock leaves Vulpix with Suzie for good.

First seen: SM014Getting to Know You!
Samson Oak's Vulpix is the red, Kanto-style counterpart to Snowy. Its Egg was a gift from his cousin, Professor Oak, carried to Alola by Ash and his mother in Alola to New Adventure! (SM001), and when the class picked the white Egg instead, Samson kept this one for himself (SM008). It finally hatched in Getting to Know You! (SM014) and used its first Ember to thaw out a frozen Ash; Kiawe points out that Fire-type Vulpix are a rare sight in Alola. Samson is later seen training it to come when its name is called (SM017), and it attends Professor Kukui and Professor Burnet's wedding (SM055).

First seen: EP267Love, Pokémon Style
Macy, a feisty Trainer from Mahogany Town, is rarely seen without her Vulpix at her side, although it never battles. In Love, Pokémon Style (EP267) Team Rocket net both it and Pikachu and race off downhill on a tandem bike. Macy trips in the chase, Ash breaks her fall, and Bayleef wins the two Pokémon back and sends Team Rocket flying with Vine Whip. Getting her Vulpix back only deepens Macy's crush on Ash, but there are no favours in their Silver Conference battle, which Ash wins when Squirtle's Hydro Pump knocks out her Quilava.

First seen: SM060Getting a Jump on the Competition!
Cerah is Alola's top PokéSled Jumper, and her partner started out as an Alolan Vulpix. In Getting a Jump on the Competition! (SM060) she tells Lillie how a bad fall with Vulpix left her afraid to jump, and how her partner's support got her back on the sled. By now it is an Alolan Ninetales that guards Lillie and Snowy with Aurora Veil and sends Cerah soaring with Frost Breath, the perfect role model for a little Vulpix learning the same move.
Ash & Vulpix
Ash has never caught a Vulpix, but he has rarely been far from one. Brock's Vulpix travelled with him through Kanto and Johto and even sparred with Pikachu in The Ancient Puzzle of Pokémopolis (EP072), and at the Silver Conference he and Bayleef won back Macy's Vulpix from Team Rocket (EP267). His closest brush came in Alola, when Lillie swapped partners with him for a weekend in The Ol' Raise and Switch! (SM030): Snowy froze him solid on the first night, then trained with him on the beach and ended up fighting on his side in a battle against Lillie and Pikachu.

Anime trivia
- Vulpix's anime debut, Pokémon Fashion Flash (EP028), is also its Who's That Pokémon? in both the Japanese and English versions, and its Japanese title even opens with the species' Japanese name, Rokon.
- When Brock introduces Vulpix for the first time in Pokémon Fashion Flash (EP028), an animation slip gives it seven tails.
- Neither of the anime's best-known Vulpix has evolved: Brock turned down the Fire Stone that the Eevee brothers' Pyro offered him (EP040), and Snowy shrank away from the Ice Stone Lillie held out to it (SM080).
- Game Pokédex entries say a newborn Vulpix has just one white tail, but the Vulpix that hatches in May's Egg-Cellent Adventure! (AG150) arrives with all six.
- Getting to Know You! (SM014) puts both forms side by side: Lillie's newly hatched Ice-type Snowy and Samson Oak's Fire-type Vulpix, which hatches in the same episode and which Kiawe notes is a rare sight in Alola.
- The first Alolan Ninetales seen in the anime, Cerah's partner in Getting a Jump on the Competition! (SM060), started out as an Alolan Vulpix, and its Aurora Veil is the very move Snowy masters in the same episode.
- Vulpix's Who's That Pokémon? appearances rarely line up between versions. It was the answer in both languages in Pokémon Fashion Flash (EP028), but only the dub used it in The Ultimate Test (EP056) and A Scare in the Air (EP082), where the Japanese answer was not a Pokémon at all but a daruma doll. Japanese viewers alone were quizzed on it in Beauty and the Breeder (EP169) and Mystery on a Deserted Island! (BW135).
“Vulpix, a Fox Pokémon. Its six tails are extremely beautiful. As it evolves, it grows even more tails. Vulpix uses powerful flame attacks.”

Vulpix in the movies
3 films, 4 Pikachu shorts and 1 special featuring Vulpix.
Vulpix's film career is really the story of Brock's Vulpix. Mewtwo snatches and clones Brock's fox in Mewtwo Strikes Back (and again in the 2019 CGI remake), and the clone turns up again on Mount Quena in the TV special Mewtwo Returns. In Spell of the Unown it gets a proper battle against Molly Hale's Teddiursa before teaming up with Cyndaquil to burn through the crystal tower. Its best moments, though, are in the early Pikachu shorts. It gets stuck in a Christmas stocking, rides Onix like a sledge, calms a crying Togepi by waving its tails and sweeps the ice in a game of Pokémon curling. After Brock handed Vulpix back to Suzie, the species has mostly been a face in the crowd on the big screen.

Brock's Vulpix; Mewtwo's clone Vulpix
Inside Mewtwo's fortress on New Island, the Trainers try to keep their Pokémon away from Mewtwo's Poké Balls. Misty manages to hide Togepi in her backpack, but Psyduck and Brock's Vulpix are snatched, leaving Pikachu as the last one free. Mewtwo copies Vulpix into a clone, and the clone Vulpix joins the great battle between the original Pokémon and their copies.

Pokémon 3: The Movie – Spell of the Unown
M03 · 2000
Brock's Vulpix
This is Vulpix's biggest film role. In the crystal-covered Hale mansion, Brock takes on Molly Hale, and after Zubat falls to Flaaffy he sends in Vulpix against Teddiursa. Vulpix lands on its feet after a Dynamic Punch and trades Quick Attacks for Fury Swipes, but collapses after the two collide in mid-air.
Later, Vulpix and Ash's Cyndaquil team up with Flamethrower to burn a hole in the crystal sealing the mansion's garden house. The crystal keeps growing back until Misty's Staryu and Ash's Totodile hold the gap open with Water Gun.

Pokémon: Mewtwo Strikes Back—Evolution
M22 · 2019
Brock's Vulpix; Mewtwo's clone Vulpix
The CGI remake gives Brock's Vulpix a little more screen time: it is already out with Ash's Charizard and Misty's Psyduck in the lunch scene near the start. On New Island, Brock sends it out with Ash's Squirtle and Bulbasaur and Misty's Togepi and Psyduck. When Mewtwo's Poké Balls strike, Vulpix is taken just as Brock and Nurse Joy reach the doors, and once again Mewtwo makes a clone Vulpix from it.

- PK02Christmas Night (1998) · Brock's Vulpix
The Trainers pop out to fetch the Christmas cake and leave Vulpix and friends at the cabin, with Pikachu in charge. Vulpix is the first to work out what the party hats are for and flips one onto its head. Later it gets stuck in a Christmas stocking, tries to stroll off as if nothing has happened and walks straight into a wall, then leaps onto the wobbling Christmas tree and tips it back the other way. - PK03Kanga Games (1998) · Brock's Vulpix
On a snow day, Onix lowers itself to the ground to become a sledge, and Vulpix piles on with Psyduck and Geodude for the ride down. Later Vulpix and Geodude chase each other over the back of a friendly mother Kangaskhan. - PK05Winter Games (1999) · Brock's Vulpix
Brock tells Vulpix to behave itself before the humans head off, and it does better than that. When Togepi starts crying, Vulpix is the one who calms it down by waving its tails in front of it. Togepi then rides on its back as the gang chase Chikorita into the park and onto an ice rink, where the Pokémon play curling: Vulpix sweeps the ice with Poliwag and Chikorita and sends a spinning Meowth sliding even faster. - PK06Stantler's Little Helpers (1999) · Brock's Vulpix
One Christmas night, Vulpix and the others pop out of their Poké Balls when Togepi wakes up. Later their search is getting nowhere until Vulpix perks up and points out a berry bush growing on a steep cliff. Togepi wants to climb up to it, but Pikachu pulls it back and climbs the cliff itself.

Vulpix in the Pokémon TCG

Vulpix has been padding through the card game since day one. It was in Japan's very first Expansion Pack in October 1996 and reached English players in Base Set in January 1999. Ever since, it has been the dependable little Basic Fire Pokémon that sets up a Ninetales, with modest HP and a trick or two: a Confuse Ray, an Ember, or a Singe that leaves the opponent Burned. The Gym era gave it two owners. Brock's Vulpix nods to the fox he looked after in the anime, while Blaine's first turned up in Japan's Cinnabar Gym deck. There have been odd detours too: a Psychic-type Delta Species Vulpix, a Shiny Vulpix in Platinum, e-Reader cards carrying music data, and a Japanese Crystal Season box with a Vulpix pair. Then Alolan Vulpix arrived. Japan handed out its first card at Jump Festa in December 2016, and the snowy fox went on to earn something its Kanto cousin never has: a Pokémon V and a record-setting VSTAR in Silver Tempest.
The art has grown up with the game. Ken Sugimori drew more Vulpix cards than anyone, giving the early years their clean, official look. Mitsuhiro Arita, Kagemaru Himeno, TOKIYA and a long line of other artists followed, and the details reward a close look: there's an Apricorn on the Aquapolis card and Dragonspiral Tower behind the Dragons Exalted one. The Sword & Shield and Scarlet & Violet years brought in a new generation of illustrators, from sui and Sekio to kawayoo and sowsow, and the Mega Evolution era finally gave Vulpix an Illustration Rare of its own. Pokémon TCG Pocket keeps the history alive, bringing back the Neo Destiny, EX Hidden Legends and Champion's Path pictures and adding new Illustration Rares and Shiny Rares of both foxes.
Cards to know
- Base Set 68/102 — Where it all began: Ken Sugimori's curly-tailed fox with a 50 HP body and a Confuse Ray. Twenty years later Evolutions brought the same picture back.
- Gym Challenge 37/132 (Brock's Vulpix) — A nod to the Vulpix Brock looked after in the anime. It stares opponents to sleep, then roasts the Bench with Fire Ring, and a W-stamped copy came free with Top Deck magazine.
- EX Dragon Frontiers 70/101 (Vulpix δ) — A Delta Species oddity: a Psychic-type Vulpix from the Holon region, casting a ghostly Will-o'-the-Wisp.
- Unleashed 68/95 — Hajime Kusajima's Vulpix is used as a teaching example in Pokémon Art Academy's 'Eight Rules of Drawing Pokémon'.
- Silver Tempest 034/195 (Alolan Vulpix VSTAR) — A record-breaker: the only VSTAR for a Pokémon that can still evolve, and the only Alolan VSTAR. Silvery Snow Star does 70 for every Pokémon V the opponent has in play.
- Mega Evolution 138/132 — Vulpix's first Illustration Rare in the physical card game, painted by saino misaki. In Japan it was an Art Rare in Mega Brave.

Vulpix in manga, books & other media
From the earliest manga to story books and songs.
Vulpix has turned up in all sorts of manga. In Pokémon Adventures, Bill keeps one to guard his house, which doesn't stop Green tying them both up, and Flannery's Vulpix gets its revenge on Shelly's Ludicolo with Grudge. Enta, the hero of the Battle Frontier manga, starts out with a Vulpix that evolves into his Ninetales, and in Magical Pokémon Journey Kiaraway's Vulpix becomes friends with Coconut.
On the bookshelf, Japan's Pokémon Tales gave Vulpix a picture book of its own, Rokon and the Girl, while Brock's Vulpix is all over Scholastic's early chapter books and Pokémon Junior readers, heating Team Rocket's balloon in one and pinning the villains with Fire Spin in another. Off the page, Vulpix has a spot in Thursday's verse of the Pokérap, and since 2018 both Vulpix and Alolan Vulpix have been Hokkaido's ambassador Pokémon. That job has brought Poké Lids, a Snow Miku team-up and Air Do's Vulpix Jet.

Vulpix trivia
Name origins, design secrets and the facts that make Vulpix such a fan favourite.
What’s in a name?
Vulpix is a neat little sum: vulpes, Latin for 'fox', plus 'six' for its famous tails – with perhaps a spark of Vulcan, the Roman god of fire, thrown in. Its Japanese name, Rokon, works the same way: roku means six and kon is the cry of a fox in Japanese, with possible echoes of konro, a cooking stove, and of kon, a grudge – fitting for a line whose evolution is said to lay curses on those who wrong it. Alolan Vulpix even has its own old local name, Keokeo, from the Hawaiian keʻokeʻo, 'white'. Translator Nob Ogasawara once joked that he wished the pair had been named Vulpvi and Vulpix instead, since VI and IX are the Roman numerals for six and nine.
Design origins
Vulpix and Ninetales were designed by Atsuko Nishida, and the inspiration is plain to see: a red fox crossed with the kitsune of Japanese folklore – magical foxes that live for centuries, grow extra tails as they age and command supernatural powers, fire-breathing among them. Old kitsune were said to become spirit beings, which may be why Vulpix can learn Ghost- and Psychic-type moves, and its golden shiny colouring may nod to the nine-tailed kyūbi no kitsune or the golden-furred kinko. Alolan Vulpix borrows from the Arctic fox, whose white winter coat lets it vanish against the snow. During development its working English name was Foxfire, and the Spaceworld 1997 demo of Gold and Silver shows it with a pre-evolution that never made the final games: Mikon, a smaller, three-tailed fox cub.

- Its 38 base HP is the lowest of any Fire-type Pokémon.
- Vulpix and Growlithe are classic counterparts: both pure Fire-types from Generation I with Flash Fire, both Field Egg Group, both brown in the Pokédex, both evolved by a Fire Stone – and both based on Japanese folklore, the kitsune for Vulpix and the shisa for Growlithe.
- Their gender ratios are mirror images: Vulpix is three times more likely to be female, Growlithe three times more likely to be male.
- The two have usually been split between versions: Vulpix belongs to Green, the international Blue, Silver, LeafGreen, SoulSilver, Let's Go, Eevee! and Shining Pearl, with Growlithe in the opposite versions.
- Many wild Vulpix live near places linked to death and spirits, such as Route 8 by Lavender Town, Mt. Pyre, Route 209 near the Lost Tower and the Abundant Shrine – fitting for a fox whose flames are mistaken for ghosts.
- In the Mystery Dungeon games its Friend Area is Darkness Ridge, a spot mostly inhabited by Ghost- and Dark-type Pokémon.
- Vulpix shares the Fox Pokémon category with Ninetales, Fennekin, Braixen, Nickit and Thievul. In Japanese, the Vulpix and Nickit lines write it in hiragana, while Fennekin's family uses katakana.
- Vulpix's number is 37 in both the National Pokédex and the Kitakami Pokédex of The Teal Mask.
- Vulpix and Ninetales are the only Pokémon whose Alolan forms can be obtained in Pokémon Legends: Arceus.
- Leaving Legendary and Mythical Pokémon aside, Alolan Vulpix and Alolan Ninetales are the only Pokémon that can never be found as alphas in Legends: Arceus.
- Alolan Vulpix and Alolan Sandshrew are icy counterparts: both are part-Ice Alolan forms of Generation I Pokémon with Snow Cloak, both evolve with an Ice Stone, and they are split between Sun and Moon.
- Alolan Vulpix is the only unevolved Pokémon to have a Pokémon VSTAR card.
- In 2017 players in Japan and South Korea could receive Lillie's Alolan Vulpix as a special distribution for Sun, Moon, Ultra Sun and Ultra Moon.
- Both Vulpix spirit battles in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate pit you against a tiny Fox McCloud – a fox for a fox.
- The background of Vulpix's very first trading card, Base Set 68/102, was taken from a stock image library on CD.
