Battle Royal 151! is the 37th episode of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon – Ultra Legends, the twenty-second season of the Pokémon anime, and the 1063rd episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 1069, Bulbapedia code SM129). It first aired in Japan on 7 July 2019 and in the United States on 9 November 2019. It falls within the season’s The Manalo Conference stretch (EP128–EP139).
Synopsis
The Manalo Conference opens with a 151-Trainer Battle Royal, and Ash, all five of his classmates and a disguised Jessie and James survive to reach the final sixteen. Professor Kukui declares the conference open, and the commentator Caster introduces the four island kahunas, Olivia, Hala, Hapu and Nanu, as judges. The Trainers spread around the edge of the arena, and after a countdown everyone battles at once until only sixteen remain. Hiroki and his Mudbray are eliminated almost immediately, while Pikachu knocks out a Sudowoodo with Iron Tail and a Poliwrath and an Araquanid with Electroweb. Turtonator survives a Salamence’s Flamethrower and drives it back with Dragon Tail, Snowy freezes it with Powder Snow, Sandy and Shaymin defeat three opponents, Togedemaru stops a Politoed with its newly learned Spiky Shield, and Faba’s Alakazam defeats a Boldore.
With 79 Trainers left, Pikachu rides a Gyarados into a Thunderbolt that knocks out both it and a Skarmory, and Turtonator’s Shell Trap defeats an Alolan Sandslash. Jessie’s Mimikyu knocks out Pikala’s Pikachu, Bolt, and then chases every other Pikachu in sight, dragging Jessie and James after it. Gladion gives his Silvally a Rock Memory and wins with Multi-Attack, and he and Ash fight side by side for a moment and tell each other not to lose. Turtonator defeats Mad Magmar’s Magmortar and Mr. Electric’s Electivire with a single Dragon Tail after Shell Smash, as Viren watches from the stands. Ilima’s Eevee eliminates the Team Skull Grunts with Last Resort and beats Plumeria’s Salazzle with Swift, though its leg is injured, and Plumeria remarks that she has achieved her goal anyway.
Kukui watches anxiously as Guzma’s Scizor defeats a Kommo-o. With seventeen Trainers left, Mimikyu and Pikachu clash, and Kiawe’s Turtonator ends the round with an Inferno Overdrive that knocks out a Metagross. The sixteen qualifiers are Ash, Kiawe, Lana, Lillie, Mallow and Sophocles, Jessie and James in disguise, Mina, Acerola, Ilima, Gladion, Faba, Samson Oak, Guzma and Hau. Overnight, the Nurse Joys heal the Pokémon at the League’s Pokémon Center, and Ilima’s Eevee is told to rest. On television, Caster announces the first-round pairings: Ash against Faba, Ilima against Guzma, Hau against Samson Oak, Mallow against Lana, Sophocles against Mina, Jessie against James, Kiawe against Acerola and Lillie against Gladion. Several friends must now battle one another, and Ash urges everyone to give it their all.
