Getting to Know You! is the 14th episode of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon, the twentieth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 949th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 954, Bulbapedia code SM014). It first aired in Japan on 9 February 2017 and in the United States on 17 June 2017. It falls within the season’s Snowy, Rockruff & Steenee stretch (EP11–EP18).
Synopsis
Lillie catches the Alolan Vulpix that hatched from her Egg, names it Snowy, and after rescuing it from Team Rocket discovers that she can touch her own Pokémon. The newly hatched Snowy is adorable, but Lillie is still too nervous to touch her. Then Samson Oak’s Egg, the one Ash brought from Kanto, hatches too, into a Kantonian Vulpix, after the longest incubation in the anime’s history. Snowy’s Powder Snow freezes Ash solid, and the Kantonian Vulpix thaws him out with Ember. Mallow suggests that Lillie make Snowy officially hers, so Lillie throws a Poké Ball, which bounces off Ash’s head; Snowy simply nudges the ball and lets herself be caught. Professor Kukui declares Lillie an official Pokémon Trainer. When the bell on Samson Oak’s Komala startles her, Lillie resolves all the more to overcome her fear, and she decides to walk Snowy home herself while Ash and Mallow follow at a discreet distance.
At a malasada shop Jessie and James spot the rare Alolan Vulpix, James identifies it, and Jessie decides it would make a perfect present for the boss. Ash sends Rowlet out to search when Lillie wanders out of sight, and Team Rocket corner Lillie in an alley. Mimikyu wanders off, and Snowy’s Powder Snow turns the ground to ice and sends the trio slipping. For the moment Ash and Mallow are nowhere in sight, and Lillie and Snowy must face the trio alone. Lillie runs with Snowy, but Team Rocket catch up and corner her at the edge of a drop. James sends out Mareanie, which first poisons him with an affectionate hug and then fires Sludge Bomb, sending Snowy flying over the edge. Without stopping to think, Lillie leaps after her partner.
Lillie catches Snowy in her arms as she falls, and Rowlet’s Leafage slows their descent just enough for a safe landing. Snowy, now fiercely protective, freezes Mimikyu and Team Rocket with Powder Snow, and Bewear arrives to carry the frozen trio back to its den, where Jessie offers it a malasada and receives a crushing hug in thanks. Lillie hugs Snowy tightly and realises that she has touched a Pokémon, her own. The next day she carries Snowy to school in her arms. When Sophocles’s Togedemaru rolls up and touches her, she freezes in place, but Snowy jumps into her arms. Later, Snowy accidentally freezes Lillie with Powder Snow and nuzzles her in apology. It is Lillie’s first catch, and the first time a main character has caught a regional-form Pokémon.
