HS—Triumphant, released in November 2010, was the fourth main set of the HeartGold & SoulSilver series and the last before the era wound down. It went out with a bang: a 103-card set stuffed with more Pokémon Prime than any set before it, and two of Sinnoh’s greatest legendary pairs.
Eight Pokémon Prime — a record for a single set — headlined a lineup that also included Palkia & Dialga and Darkrai & Cresselia as Pokémon LEGEND. For competitive players, Undaunted’s successor was a goldmine: several of its cards would anchor top-tier decks for years.
Let’s start with that record-setting Prime lineup.
The Goal of Every Battle, the Pride of Every Trainer…
Battle for the excitement, for the challenge…and for the victory! In the Pokémon Trading Card Game: HS—Triumphant expansion, you’ll find what you need to put triumph within your reach. Palkia and Dialga combine as an incredible Pokémon LEGEND. Machamp, Gengar, and a half-dozen other powerful Pokémon appear for the first time as Pokémon Prime. New Trainer, Supporter, and Stadium cards—plus a new Special Energy card—give you new strategies and deck ideas. The only thing missing is a Trainer who battles to win…and that’s you!
— official HS—Triumphant expansion blurb
Eight Pokémon Prime
No set had ever printed as many Pokémon Prime as Triumphant’s eight — Absol, Celebi, Electrode, Gengar, Machamp, Magnezone, Mew and Yanmega. Several became instant staples, and two in particular shaped the competitive game for years.
Machamp Prime (95) was a Fighting powerhouse. Its Fighting Tag Poké-Power let it slingshot into the Active spot with Energy in tow, and Champ Buster scaled up with every damaged Pokémon on your opponent’s Bench — the backbone of the aggressive “Machamp” decks that punished the era’s popular Basic Pokémon.
Magnezone Prime (96) was the ultimate engine. Magnetic Draw refilled your hand to six cards every single turn — a relentless, free draw power — while Lost Burn turned a pile of Energy into a huge attack by banishing it to the Lost Zone. It powered some of the strongest decks of its generation.
Machamp Prime (95/102)
A Fighting powerhouse. Fighting Tag slings it into the Active spot carrying Energy, and Champ Buster grows with every damaged Pokémon on the opponent’s Bench — the core of aggressive Machamp decks.
Magnezone Prime (96/102)
The ultimate engine. Magnetic Draw refills your hand to six every turn, and Lost Burn converts a pile of Energy into a massive attack by sending it to the Lost Zone.
Print Versions
Triumphant came in four booster arts led by the creation duo Palkia and Dialga, alongside Electivire and Magmortar. Every pack was a shot at one of the eight Pokémon Prime, a piece of a Pokémon LEGEND, or the set’s hidden Alph Lithograph.

Two Pokémon LEGEND
Triumphant’s two Pokémon LEGEND both put Sinnoh’s mightiest side by side. Palkia & Dialga LEGEND (101 and 102) fused the masters of space and time into a control monster. Sudden Delete bounced a Benched Pokémon back to the opponent’s hand, and Time Control did something almost unheard-of — it added the top two cards of the opponent’s deck onto their Prizes, quietly warping the whole game.
Darkrai & Cresselia LEGEND (99 and 100) worked the shadows. Lost Crisis banished Knocked-Out Pokémon to the Lost Zone — gone for good — while Moon’s Invite let you shuffle damage counters around your opponent’s team to set up exactly the knockout you wanted.
Palkia & Dialga LEGEND (101 & 102/102)
The masters of space and time as a control monster. Sudden Delete bounces a Benched Pokémon to hand, and Time Control piles the opponent’s top two cards onto their Prizes.
Darkrai & Cresselia LEGEND (99 & 100/102)
A shadow-worker. Lost Crisis sends Knocked-Out Pokémon to the Lost Zone for good, and Moon’s Invite rearranges the opponent’s damage counters to set up the perfect knockout.
Yanmega, and a Lasting Staple
Not every Triumphant standout was a Prime headline or a legendary. Yanmega Prime (98) attacked for free — as long as your hand held the same number of cards as your opponent’s, its Insight Poké-Body dropped its attack costs to nothing, letting it fire off a 70-damage Sonicboom (unaffected by Weakness or Resistance) turn after turn. Whole decks were built around keeping those hand sizes equal.
And then there was Junk Arm (87), one of the most important Item cards the game has ever printed. For the price of two cards from your hand, it pulled any Trainer back out of your discard pile — recycling Pokémon Tools, Poké Balls and switches endlessly. It became a four-of in countless decks and a defining piece of the format.
Yanmega Prime (98/102)
It attacks for free. Insight zeroes out its attack costs whenever your hand matches your opponent’s in size, letting it fire a 70-damage Sonicboom — ignoring Weakness and Resistance — every turn.
Junk Arm (87/102)
One of the game’s great Item cards. Discard two cards to pull any Trainer back from your discard pile — recycling Tools, Balls and switches endlessly. A four-of in countless decks.
For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards
Triumphant (HS4, Nov 2010) is the most Prime-dense set of the HeartGold & SoulSilver era, and gem-mint copies of its holo Primes command four- and five-figure sums, with the Gengar and Mew Primes the runaway chases.
Most Powerful Cards (Competitive Play)
Triumphant’s Primes reshaped 2010-2011 HGSS-on Modified, especially after the mid-2011 rotation gutted older Diamond & Pearl staples. These cards anchored the era’s defining archetypes — VileGar, LostGar, MegaZone, and fast energy-acceleration builds.
