Synopsis
For the Pokémon School’s 20th anniversary, Ash’s class takes a field trip to Kanto, where Brock and Misty guide them around Professor Oak’s laboratory and corral. Samson Oak announces the special trip, and Professor Kukui says that guests will meet them there. On the plane Lillie notices that Snowy is unwell, and a passenger offers to examine her, introducing himself as a Pokémon Doctor in training; it is Brock, and it is only motion sickness. Brock flirts with a cabin attendant until Misty drags him away by the ear, and the two introduce themselves as the Gym Leaders of Pewter City and Cerulean City. Team Rocket are also heading to Kanto, summoned to headquarters, with Jessie annoyed about Matori and James and Meowth dreading a lecture from Giovanni; overhearing the class, they plan to steal Professor Oak’s Pokémon for the boss. At the lab, Samuel and Samson Oak meet, and Professor Oak recites a senryū about Bulbasaur, which Rotom answers with one of its own.
Misty and Brock show the class around the corral, where Ash’s thirty Tauros send him flying. Kiawe’s Charizard races a Rapidash, which lets Kiawe ride it. Mallow meets a Vileplume and two Gloom and flees their Poison Powder with Steenee, Togedemaru shocks a wild Raichu unconscious, Snowy meets a Ninetales that licks her head, and Popplio blows a bubble at a Dewgong. Brock and Misty compare the Kantonian and Alolan forms of Exeggutor, Geodude, Muk, Dugtrio and Marowak, until the two Marowak start fighting and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt hits everyone except the Ground-type Kantonian Marowak. Then Popplio and Kiawe’s Marowak go missing. Misty runs from a Caterpie, and Bulbasaur breaks up a fight between the Bellsprout and Oddish lines. At a lake a Gyarados appears, and Lana and Misty dive in to find Popplio among the Water Pokémon.
Kiawe’s Marowak angers an Onix by throwing its bone, and everyone runs for it. Then a net captures the Pokémon: Team Rocket’s mecha deflects Lycanroc’s Rock Throw, but Brock’s Crobat and Misty’s Staryu destroy it, and when Jessie sends out Mimikyu, Bewear arrives, grabs Team Rocket and carries them away. A Jigglypuff falls from the wreckage and sings, putting everyone to sleep, and draws on their faces with its microphone. Delia announces a welcome party, and Mimey prepares the food. Unseen by everyone, a Mew flies off after overhearing Rotom wish for one last photo; it is Mew’s first physical appearance in the main series, completing the original 151. Professor Kukui announces that tomorrow the class will visit the Cerulean Gym for a battle, and Ash can hardly wait. It is Misty’s first appearance since the Battle Frontier and Brock’s since Sinnoh.
