Boundaries Crossed White Kyurem boosterBlack & White—Boundaries Crossed hit shelves on November 7, 2012, and it arrived big. At 149 cards before secret rares — 153 in all — it was the single largest expansion of the entire Black & White era, stitched together in English from two Japanese sets, Freeze Bolt and Cold Flare. Fittingly for a set built on Pokémon Black 2 and White 2, it put the region’s new legendaries front and center.

Two headline mechanics defined the release. The fused Kyurem formes arrived as Pokémon-EX — Black Kyurem-EX and White Kyurem-EX, each with a textured Full Art — and the set debuted an entirely new rarity: ACE SPEC, ultra-powerful Trainer cards so strong that you may include only a single ACE SPEC in your whole deck.

Boundaries Crossed also reloaded the competitive game. Landorus-EX and Keldeo-EX became multi-season staples, Skyla gave every deck a tutor for any Trainer, and Computer Search set the standard for what an ACE SPEC could do. It followed Dragons Exalted and led straight into Plasma Storm.

Cross the Boundary Between Worlds!

Legendary Pokémon burst onto the scene as Black Kyurem-EX and White Kyurem-EX bring the power of Pokémon Black 2 and White 2 to the trading card game! Command Landorus, Keldeo, Cresselia, and more, wield game-changing new ACE SPEC Trainer cards, and cross into a bigger, bolder battlefield in the Black & White—Boundaries Crossed expansion!

The Kyurem Formes Take Center Stage

The fusion Kyurem formes from Pokémon Black 2 & White 2 headlined the set as Pokémon-EX. Black Kyurem-EX (#101), the Kyurem-plus-Zekrom fusion, hit for a colossal 200 damage with Black Ballista by discarding three Water Energy — a natural fit alongside Blastoise’s Deluge acceleration. White Kyurem-EX (#103), the Reshiram fusion, brought a Fire-typed counterpart. Each also received a coveted textured Full Art (#145 and #146).

Black Kyurem-EX (#101/149)

Black Kyurem-EX (#101/149)

The set’s marquee box legendary, whose 200-damage Black Ballista anchored powerful Blastoise/Keldeo decks; one of the most iconic cards of the era.

White Kyurem-EX (#103/149)

White Kyurem-EX (#103/149)

The companion box legendary to Black Kyurem and a fan-favorite chase Dragon-type EX rounding out the set’s Kyurem-form theme.

ACE SPEC — A New Kind of Power

Boundaries Crossed introduced ACE SPEC cards, a brand-new class of Trainer so powerful that a deck may contain only one. The set seeded the mechanic with pieces like Computer Search, Master Ball, Dowsing Machine, Scramble Switch and Victory Piece. Computer Search (#137) — discard two cards to search your deck for absolutely any card — became the gold standard, slotting into nearly every serious deck for the rest of the format.

Computer Search — ACE SPEC (#137/149)

Computer Search — ACE SPEC (#137/149)

The set’s headline ACE SPEC and arguably the most sought-after ever printed: a one-per-deck Item that discards 2 cards to search your deck for any card.

Landorus, Keldeo, and the Big Basics

The set’s two most important attackers needed no evolution. Landorus-EX (#89) — the debut of the Therian Forme — paired a cheap Hammerhead bench-snipe with a hard-hitting Land’s Judgment, splashing into the Fighting and “Big Basics” decks that dominated 2013–2014. Keldeo-EX (#49) was the era’s defining pivot: its Rush In Ability let it slide into the Active spot for free to shed Special Conditions and damage, and attached to Blastoise it fired Secret Sword for big numbers.

Landorus-EX (#89/149)

Landorus-EX (#89/149)

One of the most dominant attackers of the era, its Hammerhead bench-snipe and hard-hitting Land’s Judgment made it a staple of virtually every Fighting deck in the 2013 format.

Keldeo-EX (#49/149)

Keldeo-EX (#49/149)

A format-defining card whose Rush In Ability let it swap into the Active spot to shed Special Conditions and effects; a core pivot in Blastoise/Keldeo and countless other decks.

A Deep Support Cast

Beyond the heavy hitters, Boundaries Crossed was stacked with consistency. Skyla (#134) let you tutor any single Trainer straight to hand — Rare Candy, an ACE SPEC, a Tool, a switch card — exactly when you needed it, and became a near-universal Supporter. Cresselia-EX (#67) offered a defensive Psychic option, while a deep bench of Bianca, Cheren and reprinted staples kept every archetype running smoothly.

Skyla (#134/149)

Skyla (#134/149)

A hugely popular and powerful Supporter that tutors any Trainer card from your deck into your hand; beloved artwork and heavily played, with a coveted Full Art at #149.

Cresselia-EX (#67/149)

Cresselia-EX (#67/149)

A defensive Psychic-type EX with a supportive Ability that saw competitive play, and a striking chase card in its own right.

The Gold Secret Rares

Capping the 149-card checklist were four gold-bordered secret rares (#150–153): Golurk, Terrakion, Altaria and the Pokémon Tool Rocky Helmet. Their etched gold frames made them some of the most eye-catching pulls of the era, with Terrakion (#151) the standout chase.

Terrakion — Secret Rare (#151/149)

Terrakion — Secret Rare (#151/149)

A gold-bordered secret rare of the popular Fighting Legendary; one of the set’s top chase cards, prized for its standout etched artwork and scarcity.

Print Versions

In English, Boundaries Crossed came in booster packs with four wrapper arts — Black Kyurem, White Kyurem, Keldeo and Landorus — plus two theme decks: Cold Fire (Water/Fire/Dragon, built around Black Kyurem) and Ice Shock (Water/Lightning/Dragon, built around White Kyurem). The English release was assembled from two Japanese expansions launched July 13, 2012 — Freeze Bolt and Cold Flare — both drawn from Pokémon Black 2 and White 2.

For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards

Boundaries Crossed (BW7, Nov 2012) is a huge 149-card set whose chase cards are the nine textured Full Art ultra-rares and four gold-bordered Secret Rares (#150-153). Thin PSA 10 populations on this older Black & White stock push top graded copies well into four figures, far above their modest raw prices.

Keldeo-EX

Keldeo-EX (Full Art) (#142/149)

The set’s blue-chip Full Art and a competitive icon; raw copies run about $80, but gem-mint PSA 10s are scarce and command roughly $5,000-$5,500 (PriceCharting), the highest graded value in the set.

Landorus-EX

Landorus-EX (Full Art) (#144/149)

A textured Full Art of the era’s dominant Fighting attacker; ungraded copies sit near $45, while PSA 10 examples have sold for around $3,800.

Black Kyurem-EX

Black Kyurem-EX (Full Art) (#145/149)

One of the most sought-after Full Arts in the set, with unusually strong raw demand near $250 and PSA 10 copies around $1,900.

White Kyurem-EX

White Kyurem-EX (Full Art) (#146/149)

The companion legendary Full Art; raw copies fetch roughly $200 and PSA 10 examples bring about $1,450.

Terrakion

Terrakion (Secret Rare Gold) (#151/149)

The most valuable of the four gold-bordered Secret Rares; raw copies run near $70, but PSA 10s are tough to find and sell for about $2,175.

Most Powerful Cards (Competitive Play)

Boundaries Crossed reshaped 2012-2014 Modified, supplying format-defining EX attackers, a free-retreat pivot that anchored decks for years, and consistency Trainers rated among the best ever printed. Its cards headlined the top decks straight through the 2013-14 championship season.

Landorus-EX

Landorus-EX (Fighting Attacker / Big Basics)

With a cheap Hammerhead that snipes for 30 ignoring Weakness/Resistance and a hard-hitting Land’s Judgment, this splashable Basic anchored Fighting and Big Basics decks and was one of the format’s premier attackers into 2014.

Keldeo-EX

Keldeo-EX (Pivot / Blastoise Partner)

Its Rush In Ability let it switch in for free to shed status and damage, making it the game’s defining pivot; attached to Blastoise it fired Secret Sword for big numbers and became a multi-year staple.

Black Kyurem-EX

Black Kyurem-EX (Blastoise/Keldeo Attacker)

The regular #101/149 print, its Black Ballista hit for 200 by discarding three Water Energy, fueled by Blastoise’s Deluge and Rare Candy in the top-tier 2013 Blastoise/Keldeo/Black Kyurem deck.

Skyla

Skyla (Search Supporter / Consistency)

This Supporter searched the deck for any single Trainer, fetching Rare Candy, Computer Search, Tools or switch cards exactly when needed; a near-universal consistency staple across virtually every archetype.

Computer Search

Computer Search (ACE SPEC / Universal Tutor)

The best ACE SPEC of its era: discard two cards to search out any one card in the deck. The one-per-deck tutor slotted into nearly every competitive list and set the standard for the mechanic.

Trivia

  • The biggest of its era. At 149 cards before secret rares (153 in all), Boundaries Crossed was the single largest expansion of the entire Black & White era.
  • Two sets in one. The English release merged the Japanese Freeze Bolt and Cold Flare sets, giving it far more cards than a typical Japan-to-English conversion.
  • ACE SPEC debut. It was the first English set to include ACE SPEC Trainer cards — a rarity so strong you may play only one per deck.
  • Straight from Black 2 & White 2. The set drew on the Gen V sequel games, showcasing the fused Kyurem formes as Black Kyurem-EX and White Kyurem-EX.
  • A staple factory. Landorus-EX from this set went on to anchor top-tier competitive decks for years after release.
