Synopsis

A Kanto Fair reminds Ash of his Charizard, which he calls back from the Charicific Valley in exchange for Unfezant and then battles against Iris’s Dragonite. A clumsy stage Charmander’s spinning Ember act leads Ash to tell his friends how he met his own Charmander.

In reanimated flashbacks, Ash recalls rescuing Charmander from its selfish Trainer Damian, its battles as Charmander, its disobedience as Charmeleon and Charizard, its loss at the Indigo Plateau Conference, the night of care in the Orange Islands that won its trust, and its later training in the Charicific Valley and comebacks against Clair, Gary and Noland. Professor Oak sends Charizard’s Poké Ball, and Unfezant goes to Oak’s lab to race with Swellow and Staraptor.

Charizard greets Pikachu with a Flamethrower but glares at Iris’s Dragonite, so Ash and Iris let them battle. Charizard blocks Thunder Punch with Wing Attack, lands Slash and grounds Dragonite with Dragon Tail before N calls the match, saying the two now respect each other. Iris is shocked to learn Charizard is not a Dragon-type, and Charizard agrees to continue in Unova with Ash.
