Synopsis
Left behind when Celebi carries Ash into the past, Pikachu, Lycanroc, Rowlet and Meltan set out across Melemele Island on a perilous search for their missing Trainer. The episode unfolds alongside the previous one: Torracat’s Fire Blast and Lycanroc’s Stone Edge send Celebi fleeing through time with Ash and Torracat, and the four remaining Pokémon find themselves alone. Lycanroc spots Ash’s hat moving through the grass, but it is being worn by a Sudowoodo; Pikachu retrieves the cap and the search continues, while Rotom drifts off on its own. The group finds the Pokémon School empty, and when a falling blackboard eraser lands on Meltan, Pikachu has an idea. Lycanroc slides the blackboard aside, Rowlet kicks the button and the four ride the elevator down to the Ultra Guardians’ base, receiving their Guardian symbols on the way.
There, Lusamine’s Clefable is keeping a crowd of wild Meltan in order with a bowl of hex nuts. It has not seen Ash, but it summons a Ride Garchomp, which flies the search party to Mount Lanakila before the cold drives it away. The friends sled downhill, a Glalie bursting out of the snow forces them off course, and they tumble into a single giant snowball that rolls off a cliff into the sea. Underwater, Meltan goes missing, and Pikachu and Lycanroc swim into what they think is a cavern but is really the mouth of a Wailord. The Wailord surfaces to breathe and spouts Meltan into Rowlet’s talons, then clears its blowholes with a blast that launches Pikachu and Lycanroc high into the air. Everyone lands on a beach, and Pikachu wakes to see Ash’s hat on the back of a Crabrawler.
Pikachu challenges the Crabrawler, blocking its Rock Smash with Iron Tail and racing it across the water, but it is Meltan, hiding inside the hat, that finally knocks the Crabrawler out with Flash Cannon. Exhausted and hungry, the group follows Lycanroc’s nose up a cliff to a Sitrus Berry tree, but they cannot reach the fruit, and when the pile of Pokémon collapses on top of Pikachu, its Thunderbolt and Meltan’s Flash Cannon leave everyone covered in soot with a single singed Berry to show for it. A flash of green light then announces Celebi’s return, and Ash and Torracat reappear. Ash looks in vain for Elder, then is mobbed by his relieved Pokémon. He puts his hat back on, wonders why they are all so dirty, and leads them home along the beach.
