Synopsis
Misty and Brock arrive in Alola as surprise holiday guests, and the class takes them sightseeing and Mantine Surfing to Treasure Island before Team Rocket’s new mecha spoils the fun. Lana has secretly been writing to Misty since the Kanto trip, and while Misty’s sisters mind the Cerulean Gym, she and Brock have come to see Alola. At a Pokémon Center, Brock flirts with Nurse Joy until Misty drags him off by the ear, then spots a painful swelling in a Trainer’s Yungoos and stays behind to help with its treatment. At Bewear’s den, a call from Team Rocket headquarters is answered by Matori’s Alolan Meowth, which sneers at the trio, and they worry that they are being forgotten. The rest of the group enjoys towering pancakes at the Pancake Parlor, served by Nina’s Alolan Raichu, watches Misty’s Psyduck swallow a watermelon whole at Anela’s market, and sees Corsola shudder at horn-shaped pendants in a jewellery shop.
Spotting Mantine Surfers, the friends decide to surf to Treasure Island, and Team Rocket overhear and plan to capture the Mantine and Pikachu for Giovanni. On the way, Sandy’s old friend the Mantine appears and Sandy leaps a wave on its back, to Lana’s amazement. On the island, Misty hides from a meadow full of Bug types, everyone rides Alolan Exeggutor to a watering hole, and Lillie and Mallow build a sandcastle while the boys nap on the beach. Lana finds Misty quietly gazing at the ocean just before an explosion rings out. Team Rocket have netted the Mantine inside the Giga Meowthbot 3, a red version of their old robot, and Thunderbolt and Bonemerang bounce off its armour. Sandy’s Double-Edge forces open a hatch, and Misty’s Gyarados wraps itself around the machine while the others pound a single spot with their attacks.
Meowth fires the robot’s rocket fists, but Tsareena’s Trop Kick and Marowak’s Iron Head deflect them, and a combination of Iron Tail, Zing Zap, Double-Edge, Aqua Jet and Snowy’s Tackle breaks the mecha open so that Tsareena’s Magical Leaf can free the Mantine. When the robot flings Gyarados aside, Misty Mega Evolves it. Ash, Kiawe and Lana add Gigavolt Havoc, Inferno Overdrive and Hydro Vortex, and Mega Gyarados’s Hydro Pump finally blows the mecha apart, sending Team Rocket blasting off without Bewear to catch them. That evening Misty walks along the shore with Ash and finds Brock, his patient treated, cooking stew outside a green tent just as on their old journeys. As Brock stirs the pot, Psyduck pops out of its Poké Ball, eager for the first bite.
