Synopsis
The wandering Eevee finally reaches Melemele Island, where Lana and Popplio rescue it from a predatory Alolan Persian and Team Skull, and Lana catches it and names it Sandy. Eevee wakes in its tree home and tries to play with a Surfer’s Furfrou, which wants nothing to do with it. Reminded of the friendly Pokémon it once met, it sets off to find Ash and his friends. In Hau’oli City, Lana heads to the mall to buy malasadas for her father’s homecoming, but Eevee draws the attention of Pershie, the Alolan Persian belonging to a jewellery-shopping Madame. Pershie seems friendly, then swipes at Eevee and gives chase, and Popplio dashes after them while Lana searches frantically for her missing partner. At the fruit market, Ash and Anela learn from Lana that Popplio is gone, and the classmates join the search.
Popplio catches up with Eevee and the two hide in a bush, but Pershie spots Eevee’s tail and they flee again. Popplio clings to Eevee and propels them both with Aqua Jet until they tumble into a canal, and Pershie gives up when its owner calls it back. Washed up on a beach, Eevee tackles the Pokémon of Team Skull’s Tupp, Rapp and Zipp, and the Grunts quarrel over who should keep it, since Tupp thinks an Eevee would attract girls the way it does for Ilima. Rowlet alerts Ash, Pikachu’s Quick Attack frees Eevee, and Popplio catches it as it falls. When Ash declares that Team Skull do not deserve an Eevee, their Salandit, Garbodor and Zubat attack with Flame Burst, Sludge Bomb and Supersonic. Popplio raises a towering wave that blocks everything, and Rotom realises that it has learned Surf.
Eevee rides the crest of the wave and slams into the Grunts with Double-Edge, sending them flying past Kiawe and Charizard. Seeing how much Eevee loves the sea, Ash suggests that Lana catch it, and she nicknames it Sandy even before throwing a Poké Ball, as her friends point out. Lana and Popplio invite Sandy to join them, and it is caught in a Dive Ball after a few shakes, earning Lana’s victory pose. At home that evening, Harper and Sarah show off the new team member just as Lana’s father returns from his expedition. Lana explains that Sandy loves the sea, and her father remembers once seeing an Eevee riding a Mantine far out on the ocean. Lana trims Sandy’s long fringe into a neat new style, and the family takes a photograph to celebrate.
