Synopsis
Squishy battles the enraged Z2 and falls under Team Flare’s control, but Ash breaks free of Lysandre’s restraints through the Bond Phenomenon, Alain turns against Lysandre, and the two Trainers join forces against him. Lysandre explains that Zygarde punishes those who disrupt the world’s order and that, with Team Flare, its rage will usher in a new age, while Ash demands an explanation from the shaken Alain. Squishy slams Z2 into a building, and at the tower’s base Professor Sycamore’s Garchomp, Blaziken Mask’s Mega Blaziken and Clemont’s Bunnelby, Chespin, Luxray and Heliolisk battle Aliana’s Druddigon and Bryony’s Liepard. Serena, Mairin and Sycamore set off to rescue Chespie from Lysandre Labs, and Team Rocket, disguised as television crew, offer them a ride in their helicopter. Squishy’s Extreme Speed knocks Z2 back, but Z2’s vines bind it.
At the top of Prism Tower, Lysandre fits Ash and Greninja with a device meant to control the Bond Phenomenon, and both fall into a trance until Pikachu’s voice breaks through to Ash. Ash refuses Lysandre’s offer, tells Alain he believes in the Alain he knows, and with Greninja breaks the restraints through the Bond Phenomenon. Alain turns on Lysandre and has Charizard free Ash’s other Pokémon. Below, Heliolisk’s Flash blinds the scientists’ Pokémon, and Clembot captures Aliana and Bryony, allowing the group to reclaim the Lumiose Gym. Bonnie reaches the battling Zygarde and is saved from Z2’s lashing vines by Mega Blaziken, but despite her cries Squishy is finally brought under Team Flare’s control, and its body turns a menacing red like Z2’s. Lysandre is impressed by Ash’s power, but he is not about to give up.
Lysandre explains that he once tried to help people but grew disillusioned with their greed, and that he now intends to “restart” the world. He sends out Pyroar and a Shiny Gyarados, which he Mega Evolves, and Alain answers with Mega Charizard X. Pikachu’s Thunderbolt and Goodra’s Dragon Pulse meet Incinerate, Noivern’s Boomburst stops Hyper Beam, and Charizard’s Dragon Claw lands before Mega Gyarados answers with Stone Edge. Noivern’s Dragon Claw, Hawlucha’s Karate Chop and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt overpower Pyroar’s Fire Fang, and Lysandre recalls it. Ash vows that Squishy will be saved and that Lysandre’s selfishness will not destroy the world, while the controlled Squishy continues its rampage through Lumiose City and Bonnie runs after it, determined to bring her friend back. In the English dub, scenes of Ash and his Pokémon bound in cross-like poses are reanimated.
