A League of His Own! is the 32nd episode of Pokémon the Series: XYZ, the nineteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 920th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 925, Bulbapedia code XY125). Synopsis
The Kalos League’s Lumiose Conference begins with sixty-four Trainers, and Alain sweeps Trevor while Ash, after a detour to battle a disappointed Trainer named Everett, wins his first-round match with Ash-Greninja. Back in Lumiose City, Malva of the Elite Four reports live outside the stadium, with Team Rocket disguised as her camera crew, and interviews Ash about his dream of becoming a Pokémon Master. A red-mohawked Trainer named Everett, with a Kabuki Trim Furfrou, scoffs at the goal and demands a battle, but Serena and Clemont pull Ash away to register in time. That evening Ash encourages Tierno and Trevor and learns that Sawyer and Alain have entered too; Alain brushes off Professor Sycamore. The computer draws the first-round pairings, putting Trevor against Alain and Ash against a Trainer named Titus.
After Diantha’s speech and an opening fireworks show, Alain and Trevor meet on a rocky, watery field, both sending out Charizard. Trevor’s Charmeleon has evolved, and he Mega Evolves it into Mega Charizard Y, whose Ability, Drought, powers up its fire, but Alain’s Charizard, unfazed, blocks Heat Wave with a wall of water whipped up from the field by its tail. Alain then Mega Evolves his own partner, and after Fire Spin and Flamethrower collide in a cloud of smoke, Mega Charizard X’s Flamethrower knocks out Mega Charizard Y. Trevor’s Aerodactyl is knocked out by another Flamethrower, and when his last Pokémon, a newly revealed Florges, fires Energy Ball, Mega Charizard X burns straight through it and wins. Alain completes a clean sweep without losing a single Pokémon, eliminating Trevor from the tournament, while Ash’s friends watch in awe at the power of the Trainer Ash hopes to face.
On his way to the stadium, Ash is blocked by Everett, who insists on battling. Furfrou’s Sand Attack, Giga Impact and Cotton Guard cannot stop Pikachu’s Iron Tail, Electro Ball, Quick Attack and Thunderbolt, and Furfrou is defeated. Everett breaks down in tears: he never earned all eight Badges, so he cannot enter the Conference, and he urges Ash to win the League in his place. Ash arrives just as the referee is about to disqualify him. In his three-on-three match against Titus, Greninja easily withstands Altaria’s Dragon Pulse, and when Altaria unleashes Draco Meteor, Ash and Greninja synchronise into Ash-Greninja, dodge every meteor and knock Altaria out with Water Shuriken. Ash advances to the second round, and the episode closes as he, Alain and the other competitors wait for the next stage of the tournament.
