A Windswept Encounter! is the 11th episode of Pokémon the Series: XYZ, the nineteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 899th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 904, Bulbapedia code XY104). It first aired in Japan on 21 January 2016 and in the United States on 30 April 2016. It falls within the season’s Couriway, Terminus Cave & Sylveon stretch (EP101–EP105).
Synopsis
Ash’s Noibat falls for a wild Floette and must stand up to a jealous Breloom who also adores her, learning Acrobatics when Team Rocket capture both rivals. While the group rests in a meadow, Noibat flies into the forest and collides with a Breloom who is drawing a picture of Floette in the dirt, crushing the bouquet he has picked for her. Breloom’s three Beedrill surround Noibat, and Breloom poisons it with Poison Powder. With no Antidotes or Pecha Berries left, the group is helpless until a passing Floette cures Noibat with Aromatherapy. A gust blows her away, Noibat catches her in midair, and the two begin playing happily together. Clemont is surprised that a Dragon type and a Fairy type get along so well, and Team Rocket, watching from a tree, argue over whether Floette would be a cuter Showcase partner than Gourgeist.
Breloom returns and confesses his feelings to Floette with a new bouquet, but she turns away, and when he pulls her back roughly, Noibat attacks. Breloom challenges Noibat to a one-on-one battle with Floette as the prize, and Ash tells Pikachu and Hawlucha to let Noibat fight alone. Breloom’s Seed Bomb, Headbutt and Sky Uppercut overpower the young Dragon type, and Noibat is nearly fainting when Floette steps between them, only for Team Rocket to drop a net over Floette and Breloom and fly off behind a smoke screen. Clemont’s new Aroma Detector, a Probopass-shaped scent tracker, leads the group towards the thieves before overheating and exploding, as Bonnie predicted. Meanwhile, Breloom keeps trying to court Floette inside the cage and keeps failing.
Noibat’s Supersonic locates the captives, and Team Rocket, already celebrating the promotion they expect, refuse to give them up. Inkay’s Psybeam knocks out the Beedrill, Pikachu’s Electro Ball cancels Gourgeist’s Seed Bomb, and Hawlucha and Luxray join the fray while Noibat strikes the cage again and again without effect. Ignoring Bonnie’s plea to stop, Noibat flies high and dives with newly learned Acrobatics, smashing the cage open; Breloom hands Floette to Noibat, and Acrobatics and Breloom’s Headbutt together blast Team Rocket off. That evening Breloom tries once more to court Floette, and he and Noibat quarrel again. Then another gust carries Floette away to join a great flock of Floette that visits the meadow each year, and she waves goodbye. Hawlucha consoles the heartbroken Breloom, and the group continues towards Snowbelle City.
