Synopsis

A lovestruck wild Quilladin falls head over heels for Serena’s shy Eevee, setting off a rivalry with Chespin and Pancham that only ends when the three must cooperate to save their friends from Team Rocket. The group calls Professor Sycamore about Squishy, which he has never seen and suspects is a new species, but a bug on the line relays the call to Team Rocket, who decide Squishy must be what Team Flare was after. Squishy settles into Bonnie’s bag, to Dedenne’s annoyance, until Serena sews on a second pocket so both can ride along. While Squishy sunbathes and Serena practises for her next Showcase with Eevee, a wild Quilladin appears, smitten at first sight, and fires a heart-shaped Vine Whip that Eevee blocks with Protect. When his Rollout nearly flattens her, Chespin and Pancham leap to her defence, only to be knocked out. Eevee’s Double Team finally bewilders the suitor into falling over.

Quilladin returns with flowers, but Eevee hides behind Serena, and when Chespin and Pancham try to console him he shoves them away and a brawl breaks out. Hearing that Eevee feels safest near Clemont’s sturdy Bunnelby, Quilladin decides to prove his strength in battle. He beats Pancham, blocking Dark Pulse and Arm Thrust with Needle Arm, then discovers that Eevee has slept through the whole thing and tearfully challenges Chespin, the two Grass types ending in mutual respect. Meanwhile Squishy follows a decoy of itself, Dedenne, Bunnelby and Eevee tag along, and all four are scooped up in a net by Team Rocket, who escape behind a smoke cube. Ash sends Talonflame and Noibat to search while the three rivals argue over who will rescue Eevee, until Ash tells them to stop and work together.

Inside the balloon, Bunnelby chews through the net and leaps into a stream with Dedenne and Squishy, and Eevee follows; all four swim to shore while Team Rocket fly on without noticing. When the thieves double back, Bunnelby’s Wild Charge and Dedenne’s Nuzzle hold Gourgeist and Inkay off for a while before both fall, and as Team Rocket reach for Squishy it begins to change form. Ash and the others arrive in time, and Quilladin, remembering Ash’s advice, teams up with Chespin and Pancham; his Rollout sends Team Rocket blasting off. Ash praises the three, and Quilladin offers Eevee more flowers, but she is still too shy to accept. Undaunted, he spots a wild Flareon and races after it, while Serena resumes practice and Clemont starts lunch. In a final scene, cut from the English dub, the Flareon answers Quilladin’s bouquet with a Flamethrower.
