Synopsis
Anistar Gym Leader Olympia foresees a crisis that will engulf Kalos and reveals Frogadier’s lonely past, while Team Rocket’s attempt to steal the city’s giant sundial is foiled by one of her Future Sight attacks. At the Anistar Gym, Olympia, meditating with her Psychic-type students, has a vision of a coming crisis across Kalos that features Ash, Frogadier and Professor Sycamore, and her apprentice Carrie reacts with anger. At the Pokémon Center Serena shows off her second Princess Key, and Ash is eager for his seventh Badge, though Clemont reminds him that Tierno lost to the Leader’s Psychic types. A news report announces that Sycamore has come to study Anistar’s giant sundial, which may be linked to Mega Evolution, and Team Rocket decide to steal the mysterious artifact, rumoured to be of alien origin.
Before Sycamore can begin his observations, Carrie’s Sigilyph wrecks his equipment with Psywave, and she blames him for the crisis Olympia predicted. When Ash and his friends arrive, she attacks them with Sableye’s Power Gem, but Ash leaves the fight to Pikachu and Frogadier, who quickly defeat her Pokémon. Olympia stops her with a Poké Ball before she can send out another, her senior apprentice Charlene scolds Carrie for jumping to conclusions, the other Psychics apologise for her recklessness, and Sycamore recognises Olympia as the Gym Leader. Seeing Frogadier, Olympia has another vision and invites everyone to the Gym. Inside the Gym’s clockwork, space-themed hall, Olympia reveals Frogadier’s “curious fate.” After hatching, Froakie trained alone and refused to bond with the other Froakie, leading to fights and injuries that Nurse Joy had to treat.
Knowing it needed a Trainer to grow stronger, it rejected every candidate as not strong enough, until it found in Ash the quality it was looking for: love. Her vision shows Frogadier evolving and gaining even greater power with Ash, and everyone guesses it means Mega Evolution, though no Mega Greninja has ever been recorded. Ash challenges Olympia, and she accepts. Another vision makes her order her Meowstic to use Helping Hand and Future Sight, and Charlene explains that thieves are after the sundial. At the sundial, Frogadier’s Water Pulse breaks Team Rocket’s grapplers but damages the dial, and the delayed Future Sight arrives just in time to blast them off. Olympia tells Ash to prepare for infinite possibilities in their battle.
