Synopsis
Ash defeats Olympia’s pair of Meowstic in a Double Battle at the Anistar Gym to win the Psychic Badge, his seventh, and Olympia warns of a green fire that will engulf Kalos. Olympia tells Ash to learn from the past in order to decide who he will become and sends out her male and female Meowstic. Ash chooses Frogadier and Talonflame, leaving Pikachu on the sidelines. Meanwhile Team Rocket, disguised as a news crew, interview Sophie and Cosette at the sundial and learn that it gives off the same energy as Mega Evolution. In the battle, the male Meowstic uses Helping Hand while the female sets up Future Sight, and both dodge Aerial Ace and Flame Charge with their psychic power.
The male’s Light Screen blunts Flame Charge and Water Pulse, the female’s Dark Pulse knocks Talonflame out of the air, and Sycamore deduces that the male has Prankster, letting its support moves strike first. The female’s Psyshock homes in on its targets thanks to Keen Eye, and Future Sight lands on Ash’s Pokémon. Ash asks Pikachu to time the delay between Future Sight attacks, which gives him the key to his strategy. Talonflame hides inside Frogadier’s Double Team and strikes the female when the Meowstic clear the decoys with Dark Pulse, but a Thunder Wave meant for Talonflame paralyses Frogadier. Talonflame deflects Psyshock with Steel Wing, Frogadier blocks the rebound with Water Pulse, and Future Sight catches both Pokémon in midair.
With Pikachu timing the next Future Sight, Talonflame dodges Psyshock and Dark Pulse so that they strike the Meowstic, and Talonflame and Frogadier throw their opponents into the path of Future Sight. In the final exchange, Talonflame’s Flame Charge overpowers both attacks to knock out the female, and Frogadier’s Water Pulse absorbs the male’s Psyshock, grows and is sent back to finish him. Olympia praises the love she sensed in Frogadier’s last attack and presents the Psychic Badge, but warns that danger will follow without sincere purpose. Asked by Sycamore what she foresaw, she describes a green fire engulfing Kalos that will involve everyone, even Team Rocket. At the Pokémon Center, Sycamore gives Ash and Serena new Pokédexes, and on Serena’s advice Ash decides to head for the Snowbelle Gym. Olympia, alone, senses another vision of deep green eyes.
