Over the Mountain of Snow! is the 34th episode of Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest, the eighteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 877th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 883, Bulbapedia code XY083). It first aired in Japan on 30 July 2015 and in the United States on 3 October 2015. It falls within the season’s Dendemille & the road north stretch (EP79–EP85).
Teletoon had shown it in Canada on 26 September 2015; on iTunes it opened Volume 4.
Synopsis
Crossing a snowy mountain range on rented Mamoswine, the group helps an Abomasnow save a sick Snover by gathering the ingredients for medicine and protecting both from Team Rocket. On the way to Anistar City, Clemont and Bonnie share one Mamoswine while Ash and Serena ride the other. When Ash cannot get his mount up a steep slope, Serena takes the reins, drawing on the racing training her mother gave her, and her Mamoswine tows the other one up by rope. The group then crosses a swaying bridge over a gorge, with Ash reassuring Serena when a gust stops the Mamoswine in their tracks. Team Rocket, miserable in the cold, try to shelter in the Frost Cavern, but an Abomasnow blocks the entrance, stops Gourgeist’s Shadow Ball and Seed Bomb and Inkay’s Psybeam, and blasts them away with Ice Beam.
It is guarding a sick Snover inside. The Mamoswine smash a boulder blocking the path, then sense trouble and lead the group to the cave. Abomasnow attacks, but Ash, Pikachu and Serena convince it that they want to help. Clemont explains that medicine can be made from Spring Moss, which grows near hot springs, and Mountain Marigolds, which grow in snowy regions. Ash and Serena search the maze-like cave with Noibat’s echolocation guiding them to the hot springs, while Clemont and Bonnie search outside with his Snow Flower Finder, whose first find, dug up by Bunnelby, is only a Chesto Berry, so Clemont runs the device at full power to search for more. Pikachu, Chespin and Braixen cool Snover’s fever with snowballs.
Ash and Serena find the moss, Bonnie climbs a cliff for the marigolds, and Clemont mixes the medicine, but Team Rocket, eager for revenge, capture Abomasnow and trap the Mamoswine in a net. Ash and Pikachu keep Gourgeist busy while the others climb to free Abomasnow: Pikachu dodges Shadow Ball and counters with Electro Ball and Iron Tail, Chespin’s Pin Missile hits Inkay, Bonnie pelts Inkay with a snowball and Gourgeist collides with it. Chespin’s Vine Whip flings Braixen at the net, which she tears open with Scratch. Pikachu’s Thunderbolt and Abomasnow’s Ice Beam blast Team Rocket off. The cured Snover runs happily to Abomasnow, and at sunset the group rides on and sees the next town in the distance.
