Splitting Heirs! is the 44th episode of Pokémon the Series: XY, the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 839th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 845, Bulbapedia code XY045). It first aired in Japan on 2 October 2014 and in the United States on 22 November 2014. It falls within the season’s Shalour City & the road to Coumarine stretch (EP43–EP49).
Synopsis
Two feuding brothers and their Meowstic compete in their father’s treasure hunt to decide who inherits the family estate, while Clemont and Bonnie have a quarrel of their own. Over lunch with Blake, a Trainer heading home with his male Meowstic, Clemont pushes Bonnie to eat her vegetables, and when Chespin chases a female Meowstic into the forest, Bonnie follows and gets lost.
Blake’s older brother, Heath, and his female Meowstic save Bonnie and Chespin from Beedrill with Protect and Energy Ball, and the brothers bicker. At their mansion their father announces a treasure hunt for the inheritance; Blake teams with Ash and Clemont, Heath with Serena and Bonnie, and Blake explains that the brothers drifted apart after their father gave each of them an Espurr.
None of the treasures they find is right, so each brother visits a secret spot where rare flowers bloom, surprised the other remembers it. A raging Exploud attacks with Hyper Voice until the two Meowstic combine Protect, Psychic and Energy Ball, and Clemont shields Bonnie. Their father reveals the Exploud is his and the attack was staged to make them battle together again; the brothers reconcile, and so do Clemont and Bonnie.
