Foggy Pokémon Orienteering! is the 40th episode of Pokémon the Series: XY, the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 835th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 841, Bulbapedia code XY041). It first aired in Japan on 28 August 2014 and in the United States on 25 October 2014. It falls within the season’s Pokémon Summer Camp stretch (EP39–EP42).
Synopsis
During the camp’s orienteering race Bonnie is lost in the fog and rescued with the help of rival Team Squirtle, and she glimpses a shining Xerneas. Ash beats Tierno up a cliff to the first stamp, Shauna stamps her card while a frightened Serena clings to a rope bridge, and Clemont wins the maze checkpoint.
In thick fog Bonnie and Pikachu are separated from the others, and Bonnie chases a strange Pokémon that makes flowers bloom. Pikachu drives off angry Beedrill, but an Amoonguss puts Bonnie to sleep with Spore and she falls from a cliff, caught by a Drifblim, while the two teams join forces to search; Froakie and Chespin repel the Amoonguss and find Pikachu asleep.
Seeing Bonnie across a valley, Clemont suggests waking a flock of Drifloon and Drifblim to form a bridge; Ash leaps across them, grabs her and jumps back, falling short until his friends pull him up. Bonnie wakes and describes the wonderful Pokémon, and Xerneas appears in the fog with its horns shining, then vanishes before Ash can scan it or Trevor can photograph it. Both teams lose the race but congratulate the winners.
