Battling on Thin Ice! is the 6th episode of Pokémon the Series: XY, the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 801st episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 806, Bulbapedia code XY006). It first aired in Japan on 14 November 2013 and in the United States on 22 February 2014. It falls within the season’s Santalune City & Serena joins stretch (EP5–EP8).
Synopsis
Ash wins the Bug Badge in his rematch with Viola, turning her own ice battlefield against her. Serena reminds Ash that they met at Professor Oak’s Pokémon Summer Camp; he remembers the camp but not her, though she says he still never gives up until it’s over. Training against Alexa’s Noivern, Pikachu and Fletchling learn to handle Gust.
Clemont’s synthetic-web machine for Sticky Web practice clogs and explodes, so Froakie’s frubbles stand in. In the rematch Surskit blocks Thunderbolt with Protect and skates rings around Pikachu on its ice, but when Viola calls for Signal Beam, Pikachu plants its tail in the ice to steady itself and lands an accurate Thunderbolt for the win.
Fletchling hits Vivillon with Steel Wing and Razor Wind before Sleep Powder and Solar Beam knock it out. The worn-out Pikachu is put to sleep too, but Ash’s voice rouses it and it jolts itself awake with Electro Ball, counters Solar Beam, slams Vivillon into the frozen lamps and finishes with Thunderbolt. Viola awards the Bug Badge, Alexa suggests the Cyllage Gym next, and Ash asks Serena what she plans to do.
