Kalos, Where Dreams and Adventures Begin! is the 1st episode of Pokémon the Series: XY, the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 796th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 801, Bulbapedia code XY001). It first aired in Japan on 17 October 2013 and in the United States on 18 January 2014. It falls within the season’s Arrival in Kalos stretch (EP1–EP4).
Shown on Cartoon Network as a sneak preview with XY002 on 19 October 2013, two days after Japan and straight after the premiere of Genesect and the Legend Awakened, with the Japanese background music and a placeholder opening; the regular run began with it at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday 18 January 2014, with re-recorded lines and a new voice for Clembot.
Synopsis
Ash arrives in the Kalos region with Pikachu and Alexa, is thrown out of the Lumiose Gym for having no Badges, and meets Clemont, Bonnie and a Froakie that rescues Pikachu from Team Rocket. In Vaniville Town, Serena is woken by her mother’s Fletchling for another day of Rhyhorn-racing practice. At the airport Ash glimpses a mysterious Blaziken on the control tower, and Alexa, whose sister is away from the Santalune Gym, points him to the Gym in Prism Tower.
Inside Prism Tower a robotic voice asks how many Badges he has; with none, Ash is electrocuted and dropped through a trapdoor. Clemont’s backpack inflates to break his fall, and Bonnie catches Pikachu. Ash explains he has come for the Kalos League and challenges Clemont, whose Bunnelby blocks Thunderbolt and digs underground to dodge Quick Attack, Iron Tail and Electro Ball.
Team Rocket interrupt, and Wobbuffet’s Mirror Coat sends an Electro Ball back at Pikachu, but a watching Froakie leaps in and takes the hit. Froakie pins Team Rocket with its frubbles, Bunnelby’s Dig launches them and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt blasts them off. Froakie collapses, and the group rush it to Professor Sycamore’s lab.
