Synopsis
A glassmaker’s son struggles to control a window-shattering Yanma that Team Rocket turn into a lucrative scam. The Yanma pinches Ash’s hat and buzzes into town, where the vibration of its wings blows out a bakery’s glass. Its Trainer, Zachary Evans, is marched by the baker Mr Strussel to his father, a glazier, who insists that the boy release the Pokémon. Zachary tearfully lets Yanma go in the forest, then regrets it, but it has already gone.
Team Rocket net the Yanma and, after a Sonic Boom blows out a cabin’s windows, hit on a plan: break every pane in town and sell replacement glass in glazier disguises. Zachary gets the blame, and Strussel drags him to his father at the Pokémon Center, where Mr Evans has just installed his finest stained glass.
Team Rocket turn up with Yanma on a lead and threaten to shatter the windows if anyone attacks, so Chikorita and Poliwhirl let Arbok wrap them without resisting. Once Zachary manages to recall Yanma to its Poké Ball, the fight is on: Victreebel’s Razor Leaf hurts both defenders, but Yanma’s Sonic Boom knocks out Arbok, Double Team dodges the leaves, and a triple Tackle sends the trio packing with the townsfolk’s money refunded. Strussel apologises, and Zachary and Yanma are partners at last.

Trivia
- The screenplay is by Yukiyoshi Ōhashi.
- This is a stand-alone episode: it can be skipped without losing the thread of the Johto story.
- The Who’s That Pokémon? segment features Yanma in Japan, where it almost always matched the episode, but Tangela in the US, where 4Kids picked the Pokémon at random.
Changes in the English Dub
- The Japanese joke on “Yanyanma” and “Yanmama” (a delinquent young mother) is removed, and Team Rocket catch Yanma straight away.
- Team Rocket’s Yanma-themed parody of Professor Oak’s lecture poems is Japanese-only.
