By May 2008 the Diamond & Pearl era had a new headline act — and for once it wasn’t a box-art legendary. Majestic Dawn is the set Eevee fans had been waiting for: a 100-card expansion that gathered the entire Evolution Pokémon family in one place, led by the two brand-new Sinnoh forms, Leafeon and Glaceon.
Beyond the Eeveelutions, the set kept the Diamond & Pearl LV.X tradition rolling with four fresh chase cards, revived a slice of the Kanto fossil roster, and folded in the mythical Manaphy. Two theme decks, Polar Frost and Forest Force, were built around the set’s icy and leafy new stars.
But make no mistake — this one belongs to Eevee.
Far From All Things Ordinary, the Majestic Dawn Rises
A new day is emerging for the awesome powers that wait just beyond the horizon. In the Pokémon TCG: Diamond & Pearl—Majestic Dawn expansion, the Evolution Pokémon Eevee is ready to be discovered in its ice and grass forms—Glaceon and Leafeon. With more new Pokémon, new Pokémon LV.X, a cool new Stadium card, and all seven powerful evolutions of Eevee, Majestic Dawn puts amazing origins right before your eyes!
— official Majestic Dawn expansion blurb
Every Eeveelution Under One Roof
Officially, Majestic Dawn’s pitch was printed right on the box: “all seven powerful evolutions of Eevee.” In 2008 that was the complete family — Vaporeon, Jolteon and Flareon from Kanto, Espeon and Umbreon from Johto, and the two Sinnoh newcomers, Leafeon and Glaceon, making their Trading Card Game debut. For collectors it meant you could finally assemble every Eeveelution from a single expansion.
And the two rookies didn’t just show up — they earned the LV.X treatment. Leafeon LV.X (99) is an Energy engine: its Energy Forcing Poké-Power attaches an extra Energy from your hand each turn, and Verdant Dance grows stronger for every Energy card you have in play.
Glaceon LV.X (98) plays the control game. Its Chilly Breath Poké-Body switches off your opponent’s Poké-Powers entirely while Glaceon is Active — a brutal lock in a Power-dependent format — and Avalanche can splash damage across their Bench.
Together the pair anchored the set’s two theme decks — Forest Force for Leafeon, Polar Frost for Glaceon — and gave the oldest question in Pokémon, “which Eevee will you pick?”, a fresh coat of paint.
Leafeon LV.X (99/100)
The grass-type newcomer as an Energy engine. Energy Forcing attaches a bonus Energy from your hand every turn, and Verdant Dance scales up for every Energy card across your side of the field.
Glaceon LV.X (98/100)
The ice-type newcomer as a control piece. Chilly Breath shuts off your opponent’s Poké-Powers while Glaceon is Active, and Avalanche can spread 20 to each Benched Pokémon on a coin flip.
Print Versions
Majestic Dawn came in four booster designs, fronted by Darkrai, Empoleon, Garchomp and Hippowdon — a line-up of the era’s heavy hitters rather than the Eeveelutions the set is best remembered for.

The Other Two LV.X
Leafeon and Glaceon weren’t the only Pokémon LV.X in the packs. Two more capped the set at numbers 97 and 100.
Garchomp LV.X (97/100)
Cynthia’s signature dragon arrives swinging. Dragon Pulse flips three coins for Bench damage the moment it levels up, while Restore hauls a Pokémon and up to three Energy straight back out of your discard pile.
Porygon-Z LV.X (100/100)
A toolbox in a single card. Mode Crash wipes every Special Energy your opponent has in play, and Decode lets you stack the top two cards of your deck in exactly the order you want.
Beyond the Eeveelutions
A couple of other cards are worth pulling out of the binder.
Manaphy (8/100)
The mythical Manaphy, star of the ninth Pokémon movie, arrives as a Rare Holo. Its Aqua Skin Poké-Body heals it whenever you attach Water Energy, and Fountain spreads Energy across your Bench as it attacks.
Dawn Stadium (79/100)
The “cool new Stadium” the set’s marketing promised. Whenever anyone attaches Energy to a Grass or Water Pokémon, Dawn Stadium heals a damage counter and clears Special Conditions — quiet support for exactly the types the Eeveelutions cover.
For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards
Majestic Dawn is a compact 100-card set whose value hangs almost entirely on its four Lv.X cards and its beloved Eeveelution holos, Leafeon and Glaceon. Sealed booster boxes now sell in the thousands, and PSA 10 examples of the chase Lv.X cards are the true prizes.
Most Powerful Cards (Competitive Play)
Majestic Dawn reshaped the 2008 Modified format: Leafeon and Glaceon Lv.X anchored the dominant ‘LeafeonX’ deck, while consistency staples like Call Energy and Warp Point became near-universal inclusions across nearly every archetype for years afterward.
Leafeon Lv.X (LeafeonX engine / energy acceleration)
Its ‘Energy Forcing’ Poke-Power granted a second Energy attachment each turn, powering up attackers quickly and anchoring the top-tier Leafeon/Glaceon (‘LeafeonX’) deck.
Glaceon Lv.X (LeafeonX anti-Power wall)
‘Chilly Breath’ shut off all of the opponent’s Poke-Powers while Glaceon was Active, hard-countering the Power-reliant decks (Claydol, Gardevoir, Uxie) that defined the era.
Garchomp Lv.X (Garchomp deck recovery engine)
Its free ‘Restore’ attack pulled a Pokemon plus three basic Energy straight from the discard onto the Bench, giving Garchomp decks a strong rebuild engine, while ‘Dragon Pulse’ added Bench spread on level-up.
Trivia
- The set’s marketing leaned entirely on Eevee: the box promised “all seven powerful evolutions,” a complete family in the pre-Sylveon era.
- Majestic Dawn drew mainly from Japan’s “Dawn Dash” (夜明けの疾走) — the companion half to the “Moonlit Pursuit” set that fed Great Encounters.
- Both theme decks are named for the new Eeveelutions’ elements: Polar Frost (Glaceon) and Forest Force (Leafeon).
- A run of Kanto fossils returns — Aerodactyl, Kabutops and Omastar among them — backed by Old Amber, Dome Fossil and Helix Fossil.
- Leafeon and Glaceon debuted here — the first new Eeveelutions added to the TCG since Espeon and Umbreon back in the Neo era.
