Overview
From the official set description:
Dual Powers Clash! Long years of stability come to an end when Shiny Mega Gardevoir-EX lays siege to the mighty Gear Palace with a host of greedy forces. The Mythical Steam Pokémon Volcanion must wield the dual powers of fire and water to stop them! As the battle rages, Xerneas BREAK and Yveltal BREAK face off in the Pokémon TCG: XY—Steam Siege expansion!
Seven New BREAK Cards
No set added more to the BREAK Evolution line than Steam Siege, which introduced seven BREAK cards spanning nearly every type.
The quartet is completed by Yanmega BREAK (#8), Pyroar BREAK (#24), Xerneas BREAK (#82) and Hydreigon BREAK (#87) — seven in all, the mechanic’s widest spread in any single expansion.
Mega Evolutions
Steam Siege carried two Mega Evolutions, both tied to the set’s steam-and-gears identity.
The Movie Stars: Volcanion & Magearna
Steam Siege’s marquee pair comes straight from the 2016 film, and both proved far more than movie cameos.
More Powerful Pokémon-EX
Beyond the movie duo, Steam Siege is stacked with playable Pokémon-EX.
Products & Print Versions
Steam Siege shipped in four booster pack artworks — Volcanion, Gardevoir, Xerneas and Yveltal — sold in booster boxes and retail blisters. The Elite Trainer Box carried the Volcanion branding, and Volcanion and Gardevoir pin blisters rounded out the line-up. (The sell sheet opens full size in a new tab.)

For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards
Steam Siege’s chase sits with its two secret rares and its Full-Art Megas — and, unusually, with a card that was as valuable competitively as it was in the binder.
Most Powerful Cards (Competitive Play)
Steam Siege punched well above the average set competitively, and its impact was felt for seasons after release.
Trivia & Points of Interest
- A movie tie-in. Steam Siege launched alongside the 2016 film Volcanion and the Mechanical Magearna, and both Mythicals headline the set.
- Seven BREAKs — a record. No other single expansion added more BREAK cards, making Steam Siege the high-water mark for the mechanic before it was retired.
- Magearna-EX’s long shadow. Soul Heart is frequently cited as one of the most important Abilities of its era, later becoming a cornerstone of the powerful Gardevoir-GX decks that followed.
- Dual sets in Japan. The cards came from two simultaneous Japanese expansions, Fever-Burst Fighter and Cruel Traitor, both released June 17, 2016.
- Shiny Mega Gardevoir-EX fronts the set’s “Gear Palace” story on the packaging, giving Steam Siege one of the more striking box arts of the XY run.
Japanese Sets, Videos & Gallery
In Japan, Steam Siege’s cards were split across two simultaneous expansions released on June 17, 2016: Fever-Burst Fighter (炎の轟き, the Fire/Fighting-leaning half) and Cruel Traitor (闇の抗争, the Darkness/Metal-leaning half). The English Steam Siege combined the two, added secret rares, and arrived about six weeks later.
