A Fiery Training Camp Trick! is the 31st episode of Pokémon the Series: Sun & Moon – Ultra Legends, the twenty-second season of the Pokémon anime, and the 1057th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 1063, Bulbapedia code SM123). It first aired in Japan on 26 May 2019 and in the United States on 28 September 2019. It falls within the season’s Z-Crystals for everyone stretch (EP119–EP127).
Synopsis
Kiawe hosts a Z-Move boot camp in the wilds of Akala Island, and a staged battle with a wild Crawdaunt helps Sophocles and Vikavolt master Savage Spin-Out. Lana shows off Oceanic Operetta with her Primarina and announces that she will enter the Alola League, and her encouragement persuades Lillie and Mallow to enter as well. Nearby, Sophocles and Vikavolt keep failing at Savage Spin-Out, and Ash thinks that they are out of sync. Kiawe invites the boys to train at his family’s farm, and Sophocles reluctantly joins them. To Mimo’s disappointment, the boys camp at an ancient altar in the forest, where the training begins with standing under a waterfall, rock climbing and a swinging-log course. When Sophocles grows tired and asks for a scientific shortcut, Kiawe refuses, but Sophocles sees Vikavolt and Togedemaru training hard on their own and recommits.
At lunch, Turtonator shares its food with Togedemaru and pulls Marowak back when it steals Pikachu’s bowl, leaving Marowak stuck in its shell. Kiawe then tells how he met Turtonator: on a milk delivery he found it fighting a Crawdaunt that had claimed a local pond, losing day after day yet refusing help. Moomoo Milk won its trust, and they trained together until Turtonator learned Shell Trap and won, after which it insisted on joining Kiawe. Sophocles begins to doubt his own bond with his Pokémon, and Ash reminds him that they trust him. That night, Kiawe quietly wakes Rotom and Turtonator to plan something for the next day. In the morning, Kiawe takes Ash away on a pretext and sends Sophocles alone to gather sticks, and a Crawdaunt bursts out of the lake.
Kiawe stops Ash from interfering. Crawdaunt’s Crabhammer and Aqua Jet batter Vikavolt, its uppercut sends it flying, and Discharge and String Shot both miss. When Sophocles orders Vikavolt to retreat, it refuses and keeps buzzing around its opponent, and its determination restores his confidence. A Signal Beam aimed at the ground lifts Vikavolt clear, Discharge hits, and Sophocles’ Buginium Z begins to glow. Vikavolt wraps Crawdaunt in a silk cocoon, hurls it and slashes it open with a full-power Savage Spin-Out. As the friends celebrate, Crawdaunt charges again, but Kiawe simply bumps fists with it: it is his old rival, now a friend, and Rotom helped set up the battle. Kiawe rewards it with a Sitrus Berry, and when Ash cheerfully proposes training all day for the League, Sophocles goes pale and faints.
