Synopsis

On a trip to Pikachu Valley with Kiawe and his sister Mimo, Ash’s Pikachu wins a tail-biting duel against the valley’s Shiny leader, and the Pikachu-loving Pikala and her partner save the whole herd from Team Rocket with Catastropika. Pikala greets Ash’s Pikachu and identifies it as a Kanto native by its silky coat, then gives the visitors Pikachu ears and tails, Pikanese names and three rules for entering the valley. Kiawe peeks into the Pikachu House van and is knocked flat by a horde of Pikachu. Ash’s Pikachu is surrounded by cautious locals until a female named Curly greets it by rubbing tails, and the others follow; Pikala explains that Alolan Pikachu greet newcomers this way, females first. Then a ring of electricity forms a thundercloud overhead and lightning strikes the group, which keeps the Pikachu’s coats silky.

Nearby, Jessie’s Mimikyu, which left its Poké Ball on its own, trembles with anger at the sight of so many Pikachu, and Team Rocket decide to use it to cause chaos and steal every Pikachu in the valley. Mimo and Pikala are thrilled that Curly seems smitten with Ash’s Pikachu, but Kiawe worries about his sister’s interest in romance, and Pikachu runs away as Curly follows. Lightning strikes his tail: it comes from a Shiny Pikachu nicknamed the Boss, who has long admired Curly. Pikala stops Ash from interfering, explaining that the Pikachu must settle it themselves and that the first to bite the other’s tail wins. The Boss charges with Volt Tackle, Pikachu traps him in Electroweb and bites his tail to win, then frees him and helps him up; the Boss raises Pikachu’s hand, and Curly rubs noses with both of them.

Then Mimikyu appears in an angry haze. Pikala takes it for a cosplayer, and Team Rocket recite their motto with a Pikanese twist, only to be handed ears and tails of their own. Jessie twists her Mimikium Z, the whole team strikes the pose, and Mimikyu traps the Pikachu under its cloth with Let’s Snuggle Forever while Jessie holds her pose to keep its power at full strength. As Mimikyu floats away with its captives, Pikala stops Kiawe from stepping in and reveals a Z-Ring with a Pikanium Z: she and the Boss unleash Catastropika, freeing the Pikachu and blasting Team Rocket away into Bewear’s arms. Ash’s Pikachu cushions the falling Pikachu with Electroweb, and the Boss catches Curly. Rotom explains that Catastropika requires Volt Tackle, which Ash’s Pikachu does not know, and Pikala begins a roll call that looks likely to last until evening.
