Synopsis
Necrozma, code-named “UB Black,” fuses with Lunala and then with the returning Nebby before escaping into Ultra Space, leaving the Ultra Guardians to nurse Lunala back to health with the power of their Z-Rings. As Necrozma chases Lunala towards Melemele Island, Professor Burnet realises that it is the source of the Ultra Aura drain, and Lusamine sends the Guardians after them on their Ride Pokémon. Meowth spots the chase from Team Rocket’s food truck but cannot rouse Jessie and James, and aboard their own helicopter, the sluggish Matori orders Gozu to set course for Melemele so that her Matori Matrix can capture the creature. Above a beach where Hala and Hariyama are watching, Tapu Koko strikes Necrozma with Dazzling Gleam, and Lunala fights back with Moongeist Beam, Moonblast, Air Slash and Phantom Force until a Psycho Cut sends it into the sea.
Garchomp and Gladion’s Noivern attack with Dragon Pulse and Boomburst, but Necrozma’s Prismatic Laser knocks Lillie off Altaria, and Lunala swoops in to save her; Flamethrower, Fire Blast, Flash Cannon and Ice Beam from the other Ride Pokémon fail too. Rotom notices the Prism Star symbol from Poipole’s drawing on Necrozma’s back. Necrozma seizes Lunala, drains its aura and fuses with it into Dawn Wings Necrozma, and when Gladion falls, Ash catches him. The Matori Matrix’s electromagnetic net cannot hold the fusion, but Nebby bursts out of another wormhole, Ash embraces it, and its Sunsteel Strike separates Necrozma from Lunala, which collapses on the beach. The helicopter then nets Nebby and Lunala at maximum power, until Silvally’s Air Slash and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt free them and Nebby drives the helicopter away.
Necrozma recovers, seizes Nebby and fuses with it into Dusk Mane Necrozma, then escapes through an Ultra Wormhole that closes before Ash can follow. With the drain halted, Kukui, Samson Oak, Jessie, James and even the Matori Matrix crew regain their energy. Lusamine names the Ultra Beast “UB Black,” Lunala is taken to the Ultra Guardians’ base, where it will need time to recover, and Faba reveals that the helicopter belongs to a special Team Rocket unit, the Matori Matrix, to Ash’s anger. Ash recalls Necrozma’s image in the altar mural, and Lusamine suspects a link to the Blinding One. At sunrise, the kahunas pray at their ruins—Hala at the Ruins of Conflict, Olivia at the Ruins of Life, Nanu and Acerola at the Ruins of Abundance—and when Ash vows to save Nebby, the Guardians’ Z-Rings glow, Lunala wakes and spreads its wings, shattering the glass of its room.
