Synopsis
On a class camping trip, Ash and his friends wake up mysteriously exhausted and starving, and discover that a Morelull has been draining their energy. The class pitches camp in a forest: Snowy freezes Lillie’s campfire with Powder Snow and Litten relights it, and Lana tells a scary story about people who fall asleep in the forest and wake up looking starved, while Rockruff startles Mallow and Lillie. Across the river, a Morelull is watching. Mallow’s curry is ready, though Lillie’s rice has swelled more than expected, leaving plenty of leftovers, and Sophocles powers a Lampent-shaped lamp with Charjabug. Rowlet drops a cookie into a bush where the Morelull is hiding. Sophocles relaxes on a sun-lounger while Mallow and Steenee pick Berries, and Pikachu bounces off Turtonator with Quick Attack as Rockruff startles Rotom.
Then Steenee vanishes, leaving its Berries behind, and Pikachu runs off, with Ash and Rotom following. Ash finds Rowlet asleep and Sophocles dozing at his sun-lounger; when he wakes Sophocles, his friend is starving, Rowlet’s cookie reappears, and the Morelull startles everyone. Before long Ash, Pikachu, Rowlet and Rotom are drained and ravenous too, and back at camp everyone except Lillie is famished. After eating the leftovers they piece the mystery together. Sophocles remembers an umbrella-like shape, and Rotom, wearing its detective wig, accuses Lillie, until Mallow cuts the act short with a clapboard and a cry of “Cut!” Then the Morelull appears, its spores put everyone to sleep, and they wake hungry once more as Sophocles accidentally touches the glowing Morelull.
Rotom explains that Morelull’s spores put others to sleep so that it can drain their energy. Lillie admits that she sprayed herself with Max Repel to keep wild Pokémon away, which is why she was never drained. The Morelull’s light grows dim; it drains Kiawe, knocks Lillie’s Poké Doll off her bag but fails to drain the doll, and Ash offers his own energy. As the Morelull feeds, Ash eats curry to keep his strength up, until the pot is empty and both of them are full, and they shake hands as friends. A group of Morelull appears in the distance, and Ash’s new friend leads the class to a clearing with a great tree, where the Morelull glow and evolve together into Shiinotic as the tree bursts into flower. A Shiinotic touches fingertips with Ash, then releases Sleep Powder. The next morning everyone is refreshed, except Lillie.
