Synopsis
Bonnie rescues a Tyrunt that has escaped from Team Rocket and cares for it like a parent, and after it evolves into Tyrantrum to save her, she must say goodbye when it turns out to belong to a fossil research lab. At night Team Rocket kidnap a sleeping Tyrunt, which wakes in their balloon, scorches Jessie’s hair with Fire Fang and falls into a river. Bonnie, going to the river for water, finds it wedged between two rocks and frees it, and as they tumble into the water together her Tyrantrum pyjama hood falls over her face. Tyrunt stares at her, and from then on it follows her everywhere, perhaps drawn to her pyjamas, Clemont guesses. Bonnie scolds it gently, brushes its fur, feeds it, cleans its teeth and teaches it manners, and Serena remarks that she is raising it like a child.
During a game of hide-and-seek among holes dug by Bunnelby, Tyrunt falls into a pit trap and Bonnie, Dedenne and Bunnelby are caught in a net and hauled up into Team Rocket’s balloon while James covers their escape with a smokescreen. In a clearing Bonnie declares that she and Tyrunt are friends and refuses to cooperate, Tyrunt breaks free with its strength, and Bunnelby digs a tunnel too small for the villains to follow. Bonnie and her Pokémon wear Team Rocket out with more holes and another game of hide-and-seek, and when Tyrunt tires, Bonnie wishes aloud that it could travel with her. Back at camp, Ash sends Noibat and Talonflame to search for them from the air, while Bonnie and her friends help Tyrunt climb a rock formation.
Team Rocket catch up again: Gourgeist ties Bunnelby down with Leech Seed and finishes it with Seed Bomb, Inkay’s Psybeam knocks out Dedenne, and a mechanical claw grabs Tyrunt. When a second claw flings Bonnie away, Tyrunt evolves into Tyrantrum, breaks free and catches her, and on her command it bites through the next claw and blasts Team Rocket off with Fire Fang. Bonnie begs Clemont to let her keep it, but his Poké Ball bounces off because Tyrantrum already has a Trainer. Two scientists who witnessed the evolution explain that it belongs to the Pokémon Fossil Research Lab and invite the group to visit. At the lab, among Aerodactyl, Kabuto and other Tyrunt and Tyrantrum, Bonnie gives Tyrantrum one last brushing, tells the scientists how much it loves being brushed, then runs to Serena in tears, before waving goodbye with a smile and promising to visit someday.
