Synopsis
Serena enters the Dendemille Town Rookie Showcase against Miette and Jessie, and with a fiery routine starring Braixen and Pancham she wins her first Princess Key. On the eve of the Showcase, Serena resolves to do better than last time, and the next morning she tells Grace that she will wear the outfit Valerie made for her. At the venue Miette arrives with Slurpuff and a newly obtained Meowstic, teases Serena about her crush on Ash and hints that she still plans to talk to him, which flusters Serena while Ash misses the point completely. Jessie, hiding nearby, vows to win, and James and Meowth say she has been training hard. Monsieur Pierre opens the event with a Poké Puff bake-off, judged by Gena, Santo and Delilah, in which only one contestant from each group advances.
Miette wins her group by using Slurpuff’s keen senses to pick ingredients and Meowstic’s Psychic to mix. Jessie, entering as “Jessilia,” lets Meowth study the judges’ Pokémon, Gena’s Jigglypuff, Santo’s Mime Jr. and Delilah’s Furfrou, to learn their tastes and bake some lumpy but usable Poké Puffs, then builds a towering mess of cream; Santo is unimpressed, but Gena and Delilah note how much the Pokémon enjoy it, and she advances. Serena pairs Pancham’s mixing with Braixen’s baking, and all three contestants in her group produce good Poké Puffs. After a tense wait under the spotlights, Serena is chosen to advance to the Freestyle Performance. In the Freestyle Performance, Jessie’s clown act has Wobbuffet bounce Meowth with Counter while Meowth slices thrown Berries into heart shapes.
Backstage, Jessie knocks Serena into some props, and Serena calms her angry Pokémon only to discover that her dress is torn. Miette performs with Psychic lifting Slurpuff amid Meowstic’s Cotton Spore. Remembering Ash’s determination, Serena trims the damaged hem and takes the stage at the last moment, dancing with Pancham as its Dark Pulse makes sparkles and Braixen raises pillars of fire; Pancham’s Stone Edge shatters into glittering stepping stones for Braixen, and the routine ends with Dark Pulse meeting Flamethrower. As the votes come in, Serena shuts her eyes, remembering her Skiddo race with Grace and her first defeat in Coumarine, and opens them to find that she has won. Outside she wonders whether to apologise to Valerie for cutting the dress, but Ash says she looked amazing, and Miette congratulates her and vows to win next time.
