Beyond the Rainbow! is the 22nd episode of Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest, the eighteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 865th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 870, Bulbapedia code XY070). It first aired in Japan on 30 April 2015 and in the United States on 4 July 2015. It falls within the season’s Mega Garchomp & Goodra’s homeland stretch (EP68–EP70).
Synopsis
Goodra and Florges join forces to rescue their friends and the wetlands from Team Rocket’s water-draining scheme, and Ash leaves Goodra behind to protect its restored homeland. A band of Bug and Poison types kidnaps Pikachu, Dedenne and Wooper and escapes despite Goodra, Frogadier and Fletchinder. Reviewing the surveillance footage, Clemont and the warden Keanan conclude that Team Rocket are involved; the group follows Goodra towards the spring, while Keanan stays behind to investigate. At the spring, Team Rocket lock their captives in special cages, and Florges frets over her sick daughter, a Floette, who is not recovering because the water is running low and its healing power is fading. Keanan reaches the same conclusion and sets off to find the cause.
The Bug-type guards refuse to believe Bonnie’s warnings because they listen only to Florges, so Clemont and Serena hold them off with battles while Ash, Bonnie and Goodra slip inside. Florges and two Seviper reject their claims too, until the water drains away completely and Team Rocket reveal themselves with their captives, boasting that they are draining the wetlands for profit. Florges realises she has been deceived, but the trio escape in a hidden airship, which Clemont, Serena and Keanan watch take off from outside as Ash explains Florges’s motive. Goodra flings Ash aboard, Florges follows on a Yanmega, and Goodra propels itself up with Dragon Pulse and blasts a hole in the hull. Inside, Inkay and Pumpkaboo face Goodra and Florges in a Double Battle.
Each defends the other, Florges sends Pumpkaboo crashing into the cage controls to free Pikachu and the others, and Goodra and Florges blast Team Rocket away. As the ship loses its water, a Yanmega carries the small Pokémon to safety, Goodra catches the falling Florges, and an explosion sends them plummeting with Ash, until the Water types below catch them with Water Gun. With the wetlands dried out, Goodra’s Rain Dance restores the water, Florges’s Grassy Terrain revives the land, and Floette recovers. The next morning the Pokémon live together as one community. On a hill above the wetlands, Ash tells Goodra to stay, since it is now strong enough to protect its home and friends. Through a tearful hug, he promises that they will always be friends, and the group sets off for Laverre City, waving goodbye to Goodra and Keanan.
