Synopsis

Ash finally battles Clemont at the Lumiose Gym and wins the Voltage Badge, his fifth, when Goodra’s Rain Dance and Bide overcome Luxray, after which Clemont hands his Gym back to Clembot and rejoins the journey. Serena and Bonnie watch from the stands with Braixen, Pancham and Dedenne, Chespin arrives disappointed that it will not be battling, Meyer turns up to everyone’s surprise, and Clembot referees. Clemont opens with Bunnelby against Pikachu, and Bonnie notices that the battle is playing out just like the pair’s first match. Bunnelby shows off its newly learned Wild Charge and grabs Pikachu with its ears as before, and its Dig hits once, but Pikachu’s Iron Tail into the ground stops the second Dig and Pikachu lands the final blow.

Clemont’s second Pokémon is Heliolisk, and Ash recalls Pikachu in favour of Goodra. Goodra’s Dragon Pulse nearly connects, but Heliolisk is extremely fast, runs rings around its slower opponent and leaves it paralysed with Thunder Wave, so Ash switches again and brings in Hawlucha. Heliolisk presses its advantage, dazzling Hawlucha with Flash and battering it with Parabolic Charge, and for a while the Wrestling Pokémon cannot land a blow. Watching closely, Ash notices that Heliolisk always pauses to spread its frills before it attacks. He tells Hawlucha to wait for that opening, and the instant the frills open, Hawlucha closes in and knocks Heliolisk out with a point-blank High Jump Kick, leaving Clemont with only one Pokémon. Clemont’s last Pokémon is Luxray.

It sets up Electric Terrain, knocks Hawlucha out with a single Wild Charge and soon defeats Pikachu as well, swinging the battle towards Clemont. Ash sends Goodra back in and has it use Rain Dance, which washes away the Electric Terrain while its Hydration Ability cures its paralysis in the rain. The two trade blows evenly until Goodra unleashes Bide and defeats Luxray, winning Ash the match and the Voltage Badge. Trainer and Gym Leader praise each other’s performance, and Serena suggests Laverre City as the next destination. Clemont announces that he will leave the Gym and his Gym Pokémon in Clembot’s care and travel with the group again, and everyone renews their original promise, this time with Serena and Dedenne included.
