Synopsis
The confused Grovyle crashes into a pillar and is finished by Luvdisc’s Water Gun, so Ash sends the already tired Corphish back out. Elsewhere in Sootopolis, Team Rocket sell tickets to a “water illusion show” starring James as Juan, presented by “the artist presently known as Juan”. Their feeble performance and a newspaper report on the real Juan’s Gym battle expose the con, and an angry fan’s Blastoise blasts them away. Back at the Gym, Corphish’s Bubble Beam misses and Luvdisc answers with Water Gun, until a Crabhammer on the water’s surface throws Luvdisc into the air. The resulting rain-like mist activates Luvdisc’s Swift Swim, but Corphish clears the mist with Bubble Beam to cancel it and knocks Luvdisc out with Crabhammer.
Juan’s next Pokémon is Whiscash, which brings down the exhausted Corphish with Surf and Rock Smash. Swellow comes in next and takes to the air above the lake, but Whiscash’s Tickle weakens it and Hyper Beam slams it into one of the arena’s pillars. Swellow recovers, swoops low and strikes from below with Aerial Ace, then follows a Quick Attack with a second Aerial Ace to knock Whiscash out. Juan’s ace, Milotic, answers with Hydro Pump and Iron Tail, and when Swellow tries to confuse it with Double Team, Milotic’s Twister picks out the real one and drives it into the ceiling. With four of Juan’s Pokémon down and only Pikachu left on Ash’s side, it all comes down to Pikachu against the beautiful Milotic.
Milotic’s Recover erases the damage from Pikachu’s Thunder, and the two trade Iron Tails and Twisters. Pikachu dodges Hydro Pump and lands a Thunderbolt, which Milotic heals off again. Finally Pikachu grabs Milotic, hurls it into the pool and unleashes Thunder through the water, and Milotic faints. Juan presents Ash with the Rain Badge, his eighth, qualifying him for the Hoenn League. Sebastian explains that the Ever Grande Conference will begin in three months in Ever Grande City. Juan has news for May as well: the last Contest of the season will be held in Pacifidlog Town, so the group set off to give her one final chance at the fifth Ribbon she needs for the Grand Festival, with Ash now free to concentrate entirely on training for the League.
