Synopsis
Investigating Spinel’s work at Exceed, Amethio learns from Hamber the truth about Gibeon’s century of Laquium research and resolves to stop Spinel, while the Rising Volt Tacklers follow Black Rayquaza to Pericarp Town. At Explorers headquarters, Sidian completes his report and Gibeon orders the admins to ambush the Rising Volt Tacklers at Laqua, voicing high expectations for Spinel. Coral and Sidian grumble that Amethio has been left out again, but Spinel says the four of them are enough, and neither he nor Chalce notices Hamber’s suspicious look. Meanwhile Amethio leads a disguised Zirc and Onia into Spinel’s laboratory at Exceed. On the Brave Olivine, the crew watch Pagogo play with Rayquaza and discuss why Laquium is called the Treasure of Eternity: Mollie suggests a theory about cell activation, Friede suspects that its effect on people explains how Gibeon is still alive, and when Dot asks why the Explorers need Laqua if they already have Laquium, Friede says the supply could run out, though with Pagogo’s century-old barrier no one can tell whether any remains.
In Spinel’s lab, Amethio discovers that the Laquium used on Umbreon was an unfinished version and finds notes on a planned “Laquium Sphere,” but security guards catch the three and lock them in a warehouse, while Spinel and Chalce meet Gibeon in person to discuss his long-held dream. Zirc tries to force his way out until Onia reminds him that their Poké Balls were taken; Amethio rejects her idea of telling Cervantis, reasoning that the guards answer to Spinel and that Spinel means to keep Cervantis in the dark. Then the shutter rises to reveal Hamber, who frees them, returns their Poké Balls and shares Amethio’s suspicion that Spinel is betraying Gibeon. When Amethio asks for the truth about Laquium and the events of a century ago, Hamber takes them to Amethio’s mansion. There Zirc and Onia pause before a portrait of a woman, and Amethio explains that it is his mother, Maria, who died in a car accident when he was young, after which Hamber raised him in place of his father.
Hamber tells them about Gibeon’s journey with Lucius and Rystal, the disaster at Laqua and the White Zygarde’s rebellion, explaining Zygarde’s biology before revealing a Zygarde Cell of Gibeon’s that chose to stay with him. Gibeon, he says, nearly died before Laquium saved him; learning that it could extend life, he took a sample from Laqua, founded Exceed and spent a hundred years researching it for the future of Pokémon. Hamber joined him out of gratitude for guidance when he was a lost adventurer and trained the current admins, all except Spinel, whom Gibeon recruited himself. Amethio resolves to stop Spinel from using his grandfather to seize Laqua’s Laquium, and Ceruledge, Zirc and Onia follow without question. When Hamber reveals that Liko is Lucius and Rystal’s descendant and calls it a destiny spanning a century, Amethio laughs that he carries his grandfather’s will but will not fight for him: he is simply himself. Aboard the airship, Rayquaza roars as they reach Pericarp Town, not Laqua, and climbs higher into the mountains than the Brave Olivine can safely follow, so the group must continue on foot.
