Before broadband, a lot of people read Gengar’s Online Pokédex offline. These are the original downloads, kept exactly as they were offered in the early 2000s. They’re plain HTML pages, so they still open in any web browser once unzipped. You can also browse the restored Gengar’s Pokédex online.
These downloads are the full versions. They include all 251 Gold, Silver and Crystal Pokémon with pictures, and version 4.0 also includes all the attack pages. Delete any older Pokédex folders before installing these files. We have also kept v3.2, in case v4.0 gives you problems.
| Version | For | How it installs | Size | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Pokédex 4.0 (full version) | Windows | Automatic installer and uninstaller inside the zip | 5.22 MB | Download |
| Pokédex 4.0 (full version) | Any computer | Manual install: read the ReadMe file included | 5.20 MB | Download |
| Pokédex 3.2 (full version) | Any computer | Manual install | 4.21 MB | Download |
Installing the manual versions
When you install the manual versions, make sure you extract the files into one folder, with the images in a folder named “images” inside it. For example, if the Pokémon files are in C:\Pokedex, the images must be in C:\Pokedex\images (notice that “images” isn’t capitalised). Most unzip tools will put the images into an images folder for you, so you may not have to worry about it.
Originally the Windows version was meant to be a single .exe file so you didn’t need WinZip, but our server didn’t allow .exe files to be uploaded for security reasons, so the installer is inside the .zip file instead. It was made for Windows of the time, so on a modern PC the manual version is the easiest way in.
Gengar’s Online Pokédex was created by Curtis Alumbaugh (Gengar) with his brother Ian Alumbaugh (Haunter).
