Synopsis

Kiawe’s little sister Mimo comes to watch his semifinal against Gladion, and Kiawe’s Turtonator learns Focus Blast to defeat Gladion’s Lycanroc before Silvally takes the field. Ash and Kiawe warm up with a training battle in which Torracat’s Revenge pushes back Turtonator’s Dragon Tail, until Torracat’s Fire Blast and Turtonator’s Flamethrower collide. At the docks, Mimo is missing, and Kiawe rushes off to search. Lost on top of the stadium, Mimo scolds Tupp, Rapp and Zipp for spray-painting the pavement, and Gladion’s Silvally drives the Grunts away with Air Slash. Learning that she is Kiawe’s sister, Gladion escorts her to the stadium, and holding her hand briefly reminds him of Lillie. Kiawe thanks him, and Mimo is shocked to learn that the kind stranger is her brother’s next opponent.

Team Rocket celebrate selling out of doughnuts before noon, then lament how far their villainy has slipped; they need a new mecha but cannot afford one, so they resign themselves to selling more doughnuts. At the den, a robot Oranguru serves Bewear and Stufful honey-dipped Berries. Guzma boasts that he will destroy the League, but Plumeria warns him not to underestimate Ash and despairs that the Grunts do not understand why he has never lost. In the stadium, Olivia trips while announcing a two-on-two battle. Gladion’s Lycanroc evades Marowak’s Bonemerang, uses Swords Dance and Stone Edge, and takes an Iron Head that sends it sprawling. Marowak dodges another Stone Edge with Flare Blitz and lands another Iron Head, but Lycanroc recovers and knocks Marowak out with Stone Edge.

Mimo cries, then cheers as Kiawe sends out Turtonator, whose Dragon Tail shatters Stone Edge and slams Lycanroc into a wall. Lycanroc’s Counter sends both Pokémon reeling, and after enduring Flamethrower it enters its red-eyed state and attacks with Outrage, charging straight into a Shell Trap explosion. Still energised and somehow in control, Lycanroc strikes Turtonator from the front, bypassing Shell Trap, and Kiawe is stunned. As Lycanroc aims a flurry of punches at the vulnerable hole in Turtonator’s shell, Turtonator suddenly fires Focus Blast, a move Caster identifies for the crowd, and a second Focus Blast knocks Lycanroc out. With each side down to one Pokémon, Gladion sends out Silvally to face Turtonator, and the episode ends as the final round of the semifinal begins.
