Synopsis

To entertain Lana’s little sisters, the class and their new friend Acerola build a haunted house at the Pokémon School, only for real Ghost-type Pokémon to drag everyone into a dream world. Lana is glum because Harper and Sarah will not stop asking to visit a haunted house. Acerola, who has dropped by to deliver a book from the Malie Library, introduces her Mimikyu, Mimikins, and reveals that it is a genuine ghost. She has no haunted house to recommend, but she suggests the class build one themselves, and Principal Samson Oak agrees and stays at the school overnight. That evening Lana guides the twins through the attraction with Rotom, while Sophocles watches from a monitoring room, Mallow pumps out fog and Lillie dangles a Pyukumuku on a string. The twins are unimpressed until Ash, Kiawe, Pikachu and Marowak leap out in costume. The chase ends when Ash steps on Pikachu’s tail and everyone is hit by Thunderbolt.

Objects then begin to float around the classroom, and Acerola’s Shuppet uses Foresight to reveal a crowd of Ghost-type Pokémon that have followed her. Harper and Sarah rush to play with them: a Haunter licks their faces and a Phantump plays peek-a-boo. Acerola warns that Ghost types sometimes carry off people they like, but the twins ignore Lana’s calls, and a Mismagius releases a wave of energy that transports the whole group to an eerie graveyard. Mismagius flies off with the twins while a band of Gourgeist blocks the way, until Pikachu’s Thunderbolt knocks them back. Mimikins leads the friends into a mausoleum, where the stairs collapse beneath them. Lana glimpses her sisters soaring overhead on Vivillon and Beautifly wings, and when she shouts to them Mismagius splits the group into separate illusions.

Mallow and Sophocles find a house made of sweets and eat its walls until they are too swollen to move, while Ash, Lillie, Kiawe and Rotom watch a Banette puppet show and discover that they have become marionettes themselves. Lana and Acerola sit down to a tea party that turns dangerous when a Chandelure pours a flood of tea and they are swept away in a giant teacup. Lana rows with a huge spoon, and a water balloon from Popplio saves them from a waterfall. Slapping her own cheeks fails to wake her, so Lana pleads for help, a giant school bell appears in the sky and a giant Komala rings it. Everyone wakes in the classroom as Samson Oak’s Komala strikes the real school bell. Acerola apologises, the twins ask for more ghost games, and Lana’s furious scolding convinces them that their big sister is scarier than any haunted house.
