Synopsis
At the Altar of the Sunne, Alola’s guardian deities help Nebby evolve into Solgaleo, which gives Ash a Solganium Z and carries the group through an Ultra Wormhole in search of Lusamine. When the four guardians appear above the altar, Pikachu approaches Tapu Koko first and Ash explains why they have come; Lillie adds that Nebby’s power could open a way to her mother, and Gladion asks whether they can meet Solgaleo. After a brief conference, the guardians cry out together and create a sphere in which, Rotom notes, the four terrains have mixed. In it the group sees a vision of Solgaleo and Lunala emerging from separate Ultra Wormholes and clashing, just as in Ash’s dream, before a Cosmog drifts out of the cloud—Nebby—and teleports the guardians near the Pokémon School. Professor Kukui concludes that the guardians and the two Legendaries entrusted Nebby to Ash.
A glow wakes Rowlet in Ash’s bag, and Nebby floats out as Tapu Lele and Tapu Fini shower the cocooned Pokémon with glittering scales and mist. Gladion grows impatient until Tapu Koko silences him with a hard stare. Kukui leaves to meet Professor Burnet, quietly whispering to his Braviary’s Poké Ball, and soon rescues Burnet and her Munchlax from a crowd of Jangmo-o and Hakamo-o with a single Brave Bird, to everyone’s surprise. Team Rocket, meanwhile, have fought their way to the altar; James’s guidebook identifies the guardian deities but not Cosmoem, and the trio still believe Nebby is a baby Koffing. They decide to capture it along with the guardians, but Bewear snatches them up, squeezes them painfully and carries them off to a nearby cliff, from where they can only watch.
The four guardians hover above their pillars and hum until light rises through the altar and strikes Nebby, which evolves into Solgaleo. Rotom confirms the evolution, Jessie and Meowth scold James for his Koffing theory, Lillie embraces Solgaleo and Ash offers it candy, earning a huge lick. When Ash, Lillie and Gladion ask Solgaleo to take them through an Ultra Wormhole, a strangely shaped Z-Crystal falls into Ash’s hand that does not fit his Z-Ring; Tapu Koko takes the ring, and the four guardians transform it into a Z-Power Ring that holds the Solganium Z. Kiawe has everyone return their Pokémon to their Poké Balls, the class climbs aboard, and Tapu Koko demonstrates the new pose. Solgaleo unleashes Searing Sunraze Smash, opens a wormhole and dashes through, just as Kukui and Burnet arrive to see it close.
