Synopsis
Left alone at Kukui’s house, Ash makes a mess of the chores, then is trapped with Sophocles in a shopping mall after Team Rocket cause a lockdown and blackout. Professor Kukui leaves with Rockruff to help a colleague, and Ash plans to spend the day training. Instead, Rowlet falls off a bookcase and spills Ash’s drink on his shirt, and when Rotom suggests laundry, Ash stuffs the machine with clothes and Kukui’s lab coats and pours in far too much powder, flooding the house with foam. Hungry, he raids the fridge, and Rotom talks him through a recipe, but Ash adds so much salt that the dish comes out as purple lumps. He eats it, feels sick and throws up on Pikachu, who retaliates with a Thunderbolt that shakes the whole house. With nothing left to eat, Ash heads to the mall, where he runs into Sophocles and Togedemaru on their way to get ice cream, and Sophocles shows off his homemade “Togedemaru Training Program”.
Team Rocket, disguised as staff, are inside the mall planning to steal its Pokémon. While James examines a security panel, Meowth is startled by Mimikyu and knocks James into it, setting off an alarm that seals every door. The power fails, separating Pikachu, Rotom and Togedemaru from Ash and Sophocles, and in the dark Sophocles, who is afraid of dark places, clings to Ash. A guard explains that the security system has malfunctioned, and Sophocles works out that it must be shut down from the power supply room. Ash decides they will do it themselves, with Rotom mapping the route. Togedemaru cannot reach a vent until Rotom lifts it, Ash and Sophocles keep running into closed doors, and Rowlet warns them of a descending door just in time for Ash to drag Sophocles under it after he trips.
Team Rocket reach the roof, where Pikachu, Rotom and Togedemaru also emerge. Mimikyu’s Shadow Claw misses, but its Shadow Ball knocks Pikachu off the edge, leaving him dangling from a window ledge, while Jessie corners Togedemaru. Ash and Sophocles arrive, and when James blocks Ash’s path to Pikachu, Sophocles has Ash order a Thunderbolt straight at Togedemaru. Togedemaru’s Lightning Rod absorbs it, and a supercharged Zing Zap blasts Mimikyu and Team Rocket, while Rowlet flies down to rescue Pikachu. Bewear carries the defeated trio away, and Rotom guides the boys to the power room, where they restore the electricity. Professor Kukui and Rockruff, who have seen Ash’s note, meet them at the mall. Ash apologises for emptying the fridge, and Kukui invites everyone to dinner at Mallow’s family restaurant.
