Synopsis

Ash’s journey through Kalos comes to an end as the friends say goodbye: Serena leaves for Hoenn with a parting kiss, Ash and Clemont battle one last time, and Ash returns home to Pallet Town. Ash calls his mother and Professor Oak, and Delia thanks Serena, Clemont and Bonnie for travelling with her son. Bonnie hardly eats, sad that the journey is ending. Team Rocket report to Giovanni, claiming with doctored footage that they brought down Team Flare single-handedly, and are ordered back to headquarters. Professor Sycamore, Alain, Mairin and Chespie come to say goodbye: the Anistar Sundial’s light can now reveal Mega Stones, and Alain, who has handed his Mega Ring and Mega Stone to the authorities as evidence because they came from Lysandre, is heading to Frost Cavern with Mairin to find a new Mega Stone on his own. He promises Ash a battle someday.

At Lumiose Airport, the friends let all their Pokémon out for a last farewell before Serena’s flight to Hoenn. Dedenne cannot bear to say goodbye and runs off through the terminal until Pikachu finds it hiding behind a video monitor. Bonnie admits she feels the same way but says that goodbye is a step towards everyone’s dreams: one day she will beat Serena in a Showcase and Ash in a battle. Dedenne jumps into her arms. Serena thanks the group and tells Ash she is glad she sought him out at the start of her journey, calling him her ultimate goal and promising to meet him again as a more mature woman. Riding down the escalator, she turns back, runs up and kisses Ash, leaving Clemont, Bonnie and Pikachu stunned, before blushing and boarding her plane.

Watching her plane depart, Clemont vows to become stronger and invent things that help people and Pokémon, and he asks Ash for one last battle to end their journey the way it began; Pikachu and Bunnelby clash, with the result left untold. At sunset, Clemont and Bonnie watch Ash’s plane leave. Across the world, Serena arrives in Hoenn, Clemont works with Clembot, Sycamore helps a new Trainer choose a starter, Alain and Mairin explore Frost Cavern, Sawyer assists Steven at the ruins of Lysandre Labs, Goodra settles a squabble in the wetlands, and Greninja destroys another root as Squishy and Z2 watch. On the plane, Ash remembers his adventures in Kalos. In the middle of the night he reaches Pallet Town, pauses to look at his hometown, and walks into the house where his mother is waiting, ready for his next journey.
