A Fork in the Road! A Parting of the Ways! is the 15th episode of Pokémon the Series: XY Kalos Quest, the eighteenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 858th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 863, Bulbapedia code XY063). It first aired in Japan on 5 March 2015 and in the United States on 16 May 2015. It falls within the season’s A Showcase debut & a new look stretch (EP60–EP64).
Synopsis
Separated from her teammates, Jessie falls for a kindly Pokémon doctor and considers quitting Team Rocket to stay with him, until her partners are captured by a Pokémon hunter and she realises where she truly belongs. At the Lumiose Gym, Clemont’s Bunnelby defeats Magneton in a practice match against Clembot, mastering Wild Charge, and Clemont decides to program Ash’s battle style into Clembot. On the road, Team Rocket’s latest attempt on Pikachu ends with a Thunderbolt that separates Jessie and Wobbuffet from James, Meowth and Pumpkaboo. A wild Gloom paralyses Jessie and Wobbuffet with Stun Spore and they tumble over a cliff into the water, where they are rescued by Dr. White, who cures Jessie with a Cheri Berry and lends her dry clothes.
Calling herself “Jessilia,” Jessie joins White on his house calls, holding down a struggling Skiddo and watching him soothe Beatrice’s Bidoof, while her Wobbuffet makes friends with his Wobbuffet and Wynaut. They learn that a Pokémon hunter has been setting traps nearby. Jessie grows fond of White and wonders whether to live for love and happiness instead of evil. When Clemont’s Dedenne is badly hurt in one of the hunter’s traps during lunch, Ash, Serena and Bonnie rush it to White’s clinic, where he drains its excess electricity, and they find Jessie working there; they agree to keep her secret. James and Meowth overhear her say that she plans to quit Team Rocket, and James quietly leads a protesting Meowth away.
Later a battered James arrives at the clinic and asks Ash’s group for help: the hunter has captured Meowth, Inkay and Pumpkaboo, and he cannot bring himself to ask Jessie. Then Jessie sees White run to Beatrice in relief and hears how much she means to him, and realises that he never loved her. She leaves Wobbuffet with its new friends and joins the rescue, where Ash, Serena and Bonnie distract the hunter while James sneaks in from behind. When the hunter’s Rhyperior attacks, Wobbuffet appears to battle it, showing that it would rather stay with Jessie, and together the heroes and Team Rocket defeat the hunter. Jessie decides that her Team Rocket partners are the best friends in the world. Back at the Gym, Clembot cannot process all of Ash’s data and explodes.
