The Bonds of Mega Evolution! is the 33rd episode of Pokémon the Series: XY, the seventeenth season of the Pokémon anime, and the 828th episode of the English dub overall (Japanese episode 834, Bulbapedia code XY034). It first aired in Japan on 3 July 2014 and in the United States on 6 September 2014. It falls within the season’s Korrina & Mega Lucario stretch (EP30–EP34).
Synopsis
On Pomace Mountain the Mega Evolution Trainer Mabel teaches Korrina to understand her Lucario, and Lucario finally masters Mega Evolution before Korrina sets off alone. Mabel’s Mega Mawile dodges Mega Lucario’s Power-Up Punch and Bone Rush and hits it with Iron Head, and when Lucario loses control, Fairy Wind knocks it out.
Instead of battle training, Mabel has everyone make flower arrangements with their partners, and she reads Korrina and Lucario’s two separate pieces as a sign of deep mutual understanding. For days she sends them off to enjoy the mountain views, and when Lucario nearly falls from a cliff, Korrina guides it along a safe path to some white flowers. Mabel tells them to unite one heart with two viewpoints.
Team Rocket smash the window and seize Pikachu and Mawile. Mega Lucario loses control under Psybeam and Shadow Ball and bites Korrina’s arm, but the flowers on her wrist bring it back to its senses; it blocks Dark Pulse with Bone Rush, frees Pikachu and Mawile, and after Mega Mawile’s Fairy Wind and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt finishes Team Rocket with Aura Sphere. Ash decides to train more before his Gym battle, and Korrina skates off on her own.
