Synopsis
Mothim leads the group to a field of flowers where a Combee is gathering nectar, and the friends follow it, confident they are close to the Amber Castle. A swarm of Combee bursts from a bush, and the chase ends at a waterfall surrounded by Combee walls. Mothim flies at the falls and Pikachu hops across the rocks after it, revealing a cave hidden behind the water. Inside, Pikachu sniffs out honey and races ahead with Mothim, and after a fork in the tunnels the friends find them in a vast cavern glowing blue, with a spiral path winding down its walls. When the two dart off again, Ash wants to follow, but Brock insists the group stay together, and their chosen tunnel ends in a dead end. Team Rocket have followed them into the cave, and Meowth, claiming he can smell honey, gets his weary partners digging.
Pikachu and Mothim return just as an angry swarm of Combee flies past. Following it, the friends find the trio’s tunnels surrounded by Combee and a dark, hissing silhouette, and when Seviper and Cacnea fight back, the Combee fire glowing beams of energy. Mothim’s Supersonic scatters them and Piplup’s Whirlpool washes Team Rocket away. Down another pitch-dark passage Ash walks into what turns out to be a giant Combee wall; when the Combee attack, Mothim’s Supersonic brings it down and reveals the Amber Castle, where honey flows everywhere and the hive’s queen, a Vespiquen, keeps watch. When Cheryl steps forward with a jar to ask for some Enchanted Honey, the Combee swarm her, and she apologises for forcing her way in, explaining that finding the castle had been her lifelong dream.
Team Rocket crash through the roof and attack with Poison Tail, Pin Missile and Bullet Seed, cracking the castle walls so that honey starts to pour out, and they start filling buckets. Brock stops Ash from fighting in case the castle collapses. Instead, Buneary’s Ice Beam seals the cracks, Sudowoodo and Croagunk pile rocks over the gaps before the ice melts, and Pachirisu’s Sweet Kiss confuses Team Rocket’s Pokémon. Mothim’s Supersonic stops the trio from escaping, the Combee pelt them with beams, and Vespiquen’s Power Gem blasts them up through several floors of the cave. The Combee reseal the walls with honey, and Vespiquen presents Cheryl with a jar of Enchanted Honey, which everyone except Croagunk enjoys. That evening, Cheryl spots a Beedrill, a sign her grandfather taught her means it is time to travel alone, and leaves, while the honey-soaked villains are chased through the forest.
