Synopsis
Walking toward the Battle Arena and admiring his new Knowledge Symbol, Ash runs out of water, and while Brock and Mudkip go looking for a lake, Max stays behind to feed the Pokémon and falls asleep. Munchlax eats everything in sight, Corphish’s Bubble Beam accidentally hits Squirtle, which answers with Bubble, and their squabble wakes a group of Geodude, who chase the Pokémon off. Munchlax is knocked flying, Pikachu and Corphish are driven away, and Ash, May and Mudkip set off to search while Brock stays behind. The angry Geodude report to their leader, a huge Onix, and Team Rocket, overhearing, realise that the troublemakers belong to Ash and convince Onix that they are dangerous invaders who have attacked its subjects, hoping to profit from the misunderstanding.
Lost in the wild and separated from their Trainers, Ash’s and May’s Pokémon have to look after themselves. In a flower field Squirtle is attacked by a swarm of Beedrill until Phanpy drives them off with Hidden Power, revealing a move Ash did not know it had, and later Pikachu’s Thunderbolt and Corphish’s Bubble Beam repel another swarm. Meanwhile the Geodude trap Brock in a cage. Pikachu, Corphish, Squirtle and Phanpy find Munchlax up a tree, but a stampede of rolling Rock-types sends them fleeing on a log over a waterfall, and at the bottom they are caged by Graveler and Golem and carried off to Onix’s kingdom to face judgement. Without their Trainers, the Pokémon have nonetheless worked together well.
Ash finds Onix and Team Rocket with all his friends captive. He tries to explain, but Onix demands a battle with everyone’s freedom as the prize, and Grovyle defeats it with Bullet Seed and Leaf Blade. Team Rocket immediately reveal their mecha, grab Pikachu and Onix and hurl a boulder that Grovyle slices to rubble. Realising whose side the trio were really on, Onix orders the Rock-types to free the captives. The mecha’s water cannons knock the Rock-types out, but Mudkip’s Water Gun, Corphish’s Bubble Beam and Squirtle’s Bubble break its arms, and Pikachu’s Thunderbolt and Onix’s Iron Tail blast Team Rocket away. As an apology, the Onix carries Ash and his friends on its back toward the Battle Arena.
