Synopsis

With a blizzard closing in, the group shelter at a Pokémon Center in the snowy heights of Izabe Island. While Brock flirts with Nurse Joy, a Snorunt slips in, freezes him with Icy Wind and runs off with Ash’s Badge case. Joy explains that the mischievous Snorunt always gives things back eventually. Pikachu and Corphish corner it, and it hands over the Stone Badge before escaping with Double Team; the Knuckle Badge turns up on the floor. Corphish then bursts into the kitchen and finds Team Rocket raiding the food. When the trio talk back to Nurse Joy, Snorunt turns on them, and together with Corphish it drives them off, Crabhammer blasting them out of a window Snorunt helpfully opens. Snorunt returns the case, freezes Ash for good measure and dashes out into the storm, and Ash jumps out after it.

On an icy slope outside, Snorunt taunts Ash from just out of reach, then loses its footing and slides helplessly toward the rocks. Ash dives to catch it and takes the impact on his back, knocking himself out in the snow. His friends search for him through the storm but are driven back to the Pokémon Center as the blizzard worsens. When Ash wakes, he finds himself inside a snow shelter that the grateful Snorunt has built around him, and the two share apples while the wind howls outside. Snorunt then carries Ash’s cap back to the Pokémon Center as a signal, and May, Brock and Max follow it on snowmobiles through the snow to find him safe and well.

Team Rocket box up Snorunt and Pikachu, but Snorunt breaks out with Icy Wind; Wobbuffet’s Mirror Coat turns a second blast back on Team Rocket, who flee in their balloon. Ash hurls Snorunt into the basket, where it freezes the trio and the balloon, frees Pikachu and freezes Seviper and Cacnea too, before Pikachu’s Thunderbolt sends them flying. Nurse Joy realises Snorunt kept the Badges only to make its game last longer. When Ash invites it to join him, Snorunt insists on a battle: Double Team and Headbutt are countered by Pikachu’s Iron Tail on the snow, and Quick Attack and Thunder let Ash catch it. Its first act is to freeze Corphish, and May’s Combusken thaws it with Fire Spin while Ash gives his new teammate a talk about manners.
