Synopsis
On the way to Mossdeep City the group stop at the Grand Wazoo Resort, where a seaweed-draped diver named Adam bursts out of the surf clutching a necklace he is sure is made of emeralds. His wife Evelyn gently points out that the stones are only Green Shards, but Adam has not given up on his lifelong dream: the treasure of the King Neptune, a ship that sank a century ago. He found the necklace on a Relicanth and is convinced the ancient fish know where the wreck lies, so Ash and his friends volunteer to help. Hiding nearby, Team Rocket overhear every word and decide that the King Neptune’s riches would make a fine present for Giovanni, imagining him lounging in jewels.
Adam takes the group down in his submarine while Evelyn mans the boat on the surface. Team Rocket give chase in their Magikarp submarine and fire torpedoes that damage Adam’s craft, then dart after a Relicanth into a tunnel where a powerful current sweeps them out of control. Adam follows the same Relicanth through a narrow passage, and after a violent ride everyone tumbles into a hidden underwater cavern containing the wreck of the King Neptune and a whole colony of Relicanth. Adam finds a treasure chest, but Team Rocket burst in, grab it with a plunger line and fire torpedoes that shake the wreck and endanger the Relicanth. Corphish’s Bubble Beam destroys the torpedoes, yet the trio escape and collapse the exit behind them with rockets, trapping the heroes inside.
The Relicanth come to the rescue, leading the submarine up through another tunnel to the surface, where Team Rocket are already gloating over their prize. May’s Bulbasaur snatches the chest back with Vine Whip until Jessie’s Seviper breaks its grip with Poison Tail, so Brock’s Mudkip fires Water Gun, the Relicanth join in with Hydro Pump, and Pikachu’s Thunder blasts Team Rocket away. Bulbasaur returns the chest to Adam, but when it is opened it holds nothing but more Green Shards. Adam is disappointed for only a moment: Evelyn offers to turn the shards into jewellery for May, and Adam realises the real treasure was the adventure with the Relicanth. He thanks the ancient Pokémon, and the travellers sail on toward Mossdeep City in the sunset.
