Synopsis

As Strong Spheres go on sale worldwide and the Tacklers complete their roster of eighteen Tera Types, Hamber tries to turn his former students Coral, Sidian and Chalce against Spinel, revealing his Bloodmoon Ursaluna, but loses to Chalce’s Mega Medicham and escapes. Spinel is delighted with the global sales, believing Exceed now controls the Laquium market and in a sense battling itself; when Chalce reports Naranja Academy’s ban, he dismisses it as too late but, wary of the Tacklers’ alliance with Amethio, orders security at Mount Pericarp increased and promises to grant Chalce’s wish. In Levincia a disguised Dot watches a violent sphere-fuelled battle, and the team celebrates Roy’s capture of the Black Rayquaza, now off gathering the Heroes. In the meeting room they tally the types: the Heroes cover Normal, Dark, Ice, Bug, Rock and Dragon; their own Pokémon cover Grass, Psychic, Fire, Electric, Flying, Water and Steel; Penny, Nemona and Ann cover Fairy, Fighting and Ground; Amethio’s Ceruledge should take Ghost. When Maushold brings mochi, they realise that Diana’s Pecharunt could provide Poison.

That night Hamber confronts his former students on patrol, warning that Strong Spheres will sever the bonds between Trainers and Pokémon everywhere, including their own; Coral and Sidian recall their doubts, but Chalce calls him a traitor, and Hamber reveals that she wants to found a respectable school in her hometown. Medicham, Glalie and Garganacl, boosted by spheres, face Hamber’s Terastallized Dusknoir and Mow Rotom. Rotom’s Double Team, Thunder Wave and Leaf Storm combine with Dusknoir’s Phantom Force, and after Medicham’s Zen Headbutt, Hamber’s Trick Room reverses speed, letting Dusknoir hit everyone with Shadow Punch and turn Glalie’s Ice Spinner back on it. Chalce boosts Medicham, which dodges repeatedly while stacking Calm Mind until Trick Room ends; its Psybeam finds the real Rotom and then Dusknoir through a Haze cloud.

A red glow appears in the Haze, and an unseen Pokémon’s Moonblast hits all three opponents until Coral’s Glalie Self-Destructs, revealing Hamber’s new partner, a Bloodmoon Ursaluna caught in Kitakami, whose Blood Moon overpowers Psybeam. Hamber reminds the three of their pasts — Coral the outcast, Sidian the street fighter, Chalce the teacher whose tiny school closed — and of the bonds they formed with their Pokémon, admitting that the Explorers are no force for justice. A shaken Chalce Mega Evolves Medicham with a Mega Ring and, hiding it in a bush, dodges Blood Moon psychically and lands a critical Axe Kick on Ursaluna’s weak spot. Medicham collapses from the strain of sphere and Mega Evolution, and Hamber argues that her Mega Evolution proves her bond, but Chalce summons agents; Ursaluna raises dust so Hamber can escape, leaving the rest to Amethio. At Devon in Rustboro City, Friede finishes his research and promises to rejoin the team after one last errand, and Liko resolves not to let the world’s bonds be taken away.
