Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO is a special expansion of the Sword & Shield era, released in English on 1 July 2022. Built as a crossover with Niantic’s hugely popular Pokémon GO mobile game, its 88-card set turns the app’s Pokémon, items, Team Leaders and even its Professor into TCG cards — and is headlined by the shimmering Radiant Charizard and Mewtwo VSTAR.
Rather than a traditional expansion, Pokémon GO is a love-letter to the mobile game: the set is laid out roughly in Pokédex order (like the app’s Pokédex), leans on GO fan-favourites (Gyarados, Snorlax, Lapras, Ditto, the Kanto starters, the GO-exclusive Mythicals Meltan and Melmetal), and features photorealistic, augmented-reality-style artwork. A reciprocal in-game event ran 16–30 June 2022, and TCG products carried codes for matching in-app avatar items.
The English set totals 88 cards — 78 in the main numbering plus 10 secret rares (79–88). It has no Trainer Gallery. The Japanese counterpart, the enhanced expansion Pokémon GO (s10b), had arrived two weeks earlier, on 17 June 2022.
Two worlds meet! The Pokémon TCG and Pokémon GO come together in a special expansion inspired by the wildly popular mobile game — featuring photorealistic artwork, PokéStops and Poké Balls, the Team Leaders Candela, Blanche, and Spark, dazzling Radiant Pokémon, and a Ditto hiding in disguise. Discover Pokémon in a whole new way!
— Official Pokémon TCG: Pokémon GO
Set Highlights: Two Worlds Collide
The face of Pokémon GO is Radiant Charizard (011/078) — the set’s most recognisable chase — backed by the competitively potent Mewtwo VSTAR (031/078) and Dragonite VSTAR (050/078). The set also debuts three Radiant Pokémon (the Kanto starters) and turns the mobile game’s Mythical duo, Meltan and Melmetal VMAX (048/078), into powerful cards.
No Pokémon TCG set has ever leaned into a video game as completely as this one. The mobile game’s interface becomes playable cardboard: the blue real-world spinning stops appear as the PokéStop Stadium (068), and app items become TCG Items — Egg Incubator (066), Lure Module (067) and Rare Candy (069). Both Egg Incubator and Lure Module even earned gold “PokéCoin”-style secret rares (087/088). GO’s own professor arrives as Professor’s Research (Professor Willow) (078).
The game’s three factions appear as Supporter cards: Blanche of Team Mystic (064), Candela of Team Valor (065) and Spark of Team Instinct (070) — the three teams symbolised by Articuno, Moltres and Zapdos. The card roster is a “greatest hits” of Pokémon iconic to the app, and includes the Mythical Meltan and Melmetal, which first appeared inside Pokémon GO before any main-series game.
Best of all, the set recreates GO’s famous running joke: a wild Pokémon that turns out to be a Ditto in disguise. Certain common cards were printed with a peelable sticker over the artwork — marked by a special Ditto symbol where the regulation mark normally sits — and peeling it reveals a hidden Ditto underneath. (The catch: a peeled card is no longer tournament-legal, creating a real collector’s dilemma.)
The crossover even ran through the promos: a special Professor’s Research (Professor Willow) promo card, SWSH178, was distributed with a code that unlocked bonus items inside the Pokémon GO app itself — a card that literally reached back into the game.

Radiant Pokémon: The Kanto Starters
Pokémon GO’s three Radiant Pokémon are fittingly the final forms of the three Kanto starters — a nod to the game where so many players began. As with all Radiant Pokémon, you may include only one Radiant in your entire deck, and their shiny alternate colouring mirrors the app’s Shiny Pokémon. Radiant Charizard (011) is the set’s signature card; Radiant Venusaur (004) and Radiant Blastoise (018) complete the trio.
Pokémon GO had one of the most unusual product line-ups of the era. In Western markets there was no booster box and no loose booster packs — Pokémon GO packs could only be found inside the branded collections, tins and boxes below. That scarcity, combined with Radiant Charizard hype, made the set sell out fast and fed heavy price gouging at launch. Every foil promo listed below is from the SWSH Black Star Promos series. Click any product to enlarge.
Elite Trainer Box
The flagship product: 10 booster packs, an exclusive foil Mewtwo V promo (SWSH229), 65 Mewtwo-themed card sleeves, 45 Energy cards, 6 damage-counter dice, a competition coin-flip die, 2 acrylic condition markers, an acrylic VSTAR marker, a player’s guide and a collector’s box with dividers.
Premium Collection — Radiant Eevee
8 booster packs, a foil Radiant Eevee promo (SWSH230) — a promo-exclusive Radiant not found in the main set — plus a deluxe Radiant Eevee pin and a Radiant Eevee playmat.
Special Collections — Team Mystic, Team Valor & Team Instinct
Three separate boxes, one per Pokémon GO team, each with 6 booster packs, a team emblem pin, and a full-art Team Leader promo: Blanche (SWSH227, Team Mystic), Candela (SWSH228, Team Valor) or Spark (SWSH226, Team Instinct).
Collection — Alolan Exeggutor V
4 booster packs, a foil Alolan Exeggutor V promo (SWSH225) and a giant oversized (jumbo) Alolan Exeggutor V card — a nod to Alolan Exeggutor’s famously tall neck.
Three Kanto-starter pin boxes, each with 3 booster packs, an enamel pin, and a foil starter promo: Bulbasaur (SWSH231), Charmander (SWSH232) or Squirtle (SWSH233).
Premier Deck Holder Collection — Dragonite VSTAR
9 booster packs — the most of any single product — plus two promos: an etched-foil Dragonite VSTAR (SWSH236) and a foil Dragonite V (SWSH235), together with a Premier Ball-shaped deck holder.
V Battle Deck — Mewtwo vs. Melmetal
Two ready-to-play 60-card decks (sold singly and as a two-deck bundle), headlined by Mewtwo V (SWSH223) and Melmetal V (SWSH224). These contain no booster packs — they’re a plug-and-play way into the set.
Rounding out the range were smaller pack-carriers: a Collector’s Tin (4 packs + a foil Pikachu promo, SWSH234), five Mini Tins (Magikarp, Eevee, Blissey, Pikachu and Snorlax, 2 packs each), a Poké Ball Tin (3 packs), and a booster bundle — the closest thing to buying packs on their own.
Promo Cards
Because Pokémon GO packs were only sold inside the products above, each product also came with its own exclusive SWSH Black Star Promo — a stamped foil card associated with the set but numbered outside the main list. Here are the promos from the Pokémon GO range, including the special Professor’s Research (Professor Willow) that carried a Pokémon GO in-game code. Click any card to enlarge.

English version vs. Japanese Variations
The biggest difference between regions is how you could buy the cards. In Japan, Pokémon GO was a normal enhanced expansion (s10b, released 17 June 2022) sold in ordinary booster boxes with 5-card packs. In the West, by contrast, there was no booster box at all — English packs (10 cards each) were sold only inside the collections and tins above. This made English packs comparatively scarce and helped drive the launch frenzy.
The Japanese set is also smaller in its base numbering, with the English release adding extra secret rares. The artwork and the game-tie-in cards (PokéStop, the Team Leaders, Professor Willow, the hidden Ditto) are shared across both.

Most Valuable Cards
Pokémon GO’s value splits between the famous name (Radiant Charizard) and the highest-dollar single (the Mewtwo V alternate art). Approximate near-mint raw values are a guide only and move constantly — the set was reprinted, which softened prices over time.
Radiant Charizard — 011/078
The set’s signature card and its most sought-after by name recognition. A gorgeous shiny-styled Charizard that was the reason many people chased Pokémon GO product. Roughly $18–25 raw, with gem-mint PSA 10 copies commanding $150+.
Mewtwo V — 072/078 (Alternate Art)
Frequently the highest raw-priced single in the set — a striking AR/lab-scene alternate art of Mewtwo, typically $50–65 raw and a strong long-term grower.
Mewtwo VSTAR — 079/078 (Rainbow Secret)
The rainbow “secret” version of the set’s marquee VSTAR, one of the premium chases at around $40–55 raw, with graded copies well beyond.
Dragonite VSTAR — 081/078 (Rainbow Secret)
A beautiful rainbow Dragonite VSTAR and a top-tier pull, generally $40–55 raw — graded gem-mint copies have reached the hundreds.
Mewtwo VSTAR — 086/078 (Gold Secret)
The gold “hyper rare” Mewtwo VSTAR and the top-numbered card in the set — a premium collector chase around $35–45 raw. The Team Leader rainbow secrets (Blanche 082, Candela 083, Spark 085) are popular team-loyalty pulls just below.
Most Powerful Cards
Despite being a “special” crossover set, Pokémon GO delivered several genuinely competitive cards.
Mewtwo VSTAR — 031/078
The set’s competitive standout. Paired with Gardevoir (for its “Psychic Embrace” energy acceleration), Mewtwo VSTAR became a real meta deck — its “Psy Purge” attack scales by discarding Psychic Energy, and its VSTAR Power delivered a big one-time swing. A flexible, hard-hitting two-prize attacker.
Dragonite VSTAR — 050/078
A powerful Colorless VSTAR that splashes into many decks. Its VSTAR Power and Draco Meteor-style attack (spreading damage across the opponent’s board) made it a strong toolbox option and a popular pick for players who wanted raw power in any color.
Radiant Charizard — 011/078
More than a collectible — Radiant Charizard is a superb single-prize attacker. Its “Combustion Blast” hits for a huge 250 damage (with a drawback), and because it only gives up one Prize when Knocked Out, it slotted into single-prize decks as a heavy hitter that punched well above its cost.
Trivia
Pokémon GO was designed as a bridge product to bring mobile-game players into the paper TCG — the game’s professor, teams, items and Mythicals all appear on cards for the first time.
The tie-in ran both ways: a Pokémon GO in-app event (16–30 June 2022) added a special TCG-themed Pikachu, returned Mewtwo to raids, debuted Wimpod and Golisopod, and handed out avatar cosmetics via codes in TCG products.
There was no Western booster box or loose packs — English packs existed only inside branded products, an unusual model that amplified scarcity.
The hidden-Ditto gimmick recreated the app’s “Ditto in disguise” joke with a peelable sticker — but peeling voids tournament legality, and grading companies had to work out how to slab peeled versus sealed copies, sparking a genuine hobby debate.
Meltan and Melmetal — the Mythical “nut” Pokémon that debuted inside Pokémon GO before any main-series game — are a fitting deep-cut inclusion.
Enormous demand and Radiant Charizard hype led to sell-outs, price gouging and a reprint; the base set was later widely available, cooling single prices.
The set is laid out in Pokédex order rather than the usual TCG grouping — another nod to the app’s Pokédex.
Unlike its neighbours in the era, Pokémon GO has no Trainer Gallery.
