Destined Rivals booster pack

Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals is the tenth main expansion of the Scarlet & Violet era, released worldwide on 30 May 2025. Its 182-card main set (244 with secret rares) continues the Trainer’s Pokémon mechanic introduced in Journey Together — but this time the villains take over, with the infamous Team Rocket headlining the expansion.

Team Rocket’s Pokémon dominate the line-up — Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex, Team Rocket’s Crobat ex, Team Rocket’s Nidoking ex and the boss himself, Giovanni — while rival Trainers Ethan, Cynthia, Marnie, Steven, Misty and Arven bring their own signature Pokémon to the battle. Tera Pokémon ex round out the ex roster.

Destined Rivals became one of the era’s most popular sets, both for its Team Rocket nostalgia and its competitive punch — Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex and Cynthia’s Garchomp ex anchored top-tier decks — while collectors chased a deep run of Special Illustration Rares and gold Hyper Rares of the villains and their rivals.

In Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals, players can find Trainer’s Pokémon cards showcasing the special bond between skilled Trainers and their Pokémon — and this time the infamous Team Rocket takes centre stage. Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex, Team Rocket’s Crobat ex and boss Giovanni lead a roster of villainous cards, clashing with rivals like Cynthia, Ethan, Marnie and Steven. Choose your side in the Pokémon TCG: Scarlet & Violet—Destined Rivals expansion!

English version vs. Japanese Variations

In Japan, the Destined Rivals card pool was split across two sets rather than one: Heat Wave Arena (sv9a) and Glory of Team Rocket (sv10), the latter released on 18 April 2025. Between them they cover the same Team Rocket and rival-Trainer line-up that the single English expansion combines, though — as always — the Japanese sets are smaller and numbered differently.

For Collectors: Most Valuable Cards

Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex

Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex — 231/182 (Special Illustration Rare)

The set’s crown jewel. Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex’s Special Illustration Rare is a dramatic full-art piece that leans hard into the villain theme, and it became Destined Rivals’ most valuable and most-wanted pull.

Ethan's Ho-Oh ex

Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex — 230/182 (Special Illustration Rare)

Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex pairs the Johto rival with the Rainbow Pokémon in a radiant Special Illustration Rare — one of the highest-value non-Rocket chase cards in the set.

Cynthia's Garchomp ex

Cynthia’s Garchomp ex — 232/182 (Special Illustration Rare)

Cynthia’s Garchomp ex gives the fan-favourite Champion a spectacular full-art treatment; between its playability and its artwork it stays near the top of the set’s value charts.

Team Rocket's Giovanni

Team Rocket’s Giovanni — 238/182 (Special Illustration Rare)

Team Rocket’s Giovanni is the set’s standout Supporter Special Illustration Rare — a beautifully illustrated character card that Team Rocket collectors chase to complete the villain line-up.

Most Powerful Cards (Competitive)

Team Rocket's Mewtwo ex

Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex — 081/182 (Double Rare)

The heart of the Team Rocket deck. Its Erasure Ball hits for 160 and climbs higher as you discard Energy from your Bench, but its Power Saver Ability means you need four or more Team Rocket’s Pokémon in play to attack — a build-around that rewards a full villain board.

Cynthia's Garchomp ex

Cynthia’s Garchomp ex — 104/182 (Double Rare)

A premier standalone attacker. Draconic Buster swings for a massive 260 (discarding all Energy), while Corkscrew Dive hits for 100 and refills your hand — Cynthia’s Garchomp ex slotted straight into the top tier of the format.

Ethan's Ho-Oh ex

Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex — 039/182 (Double Rare)

A flexible Fire engine and attacker. Golden Flame accelerates Basic Fire Energy from hand, and Shining Feathers hits for 160 while healing 50 from each of your Pokémon, giving Ethan’s Ho-Oh ex real staying power.

Team Rocket's Crobat ex

Team Rocket’s Crobat ex — 122/182 (Double Rare)

A disruptive Dark support piece: Team Rocket’s Crobat ex’s Biting Spree Ability draws cards when it evolves your Pokémon, fuelling the fast, aggressive Team Rocket engine.

Trivia

  • Team Rocket’s Mewtwo ex and Cynthia’s Garchomp ex were among the most-played cards of the 2025 season.
  • The 244-card set includes 11 Special Illustration Rares and six gold Hyper Rares.
