Top Pokemon Games Online According to Fans

Apart from console games, many online Pokemon ones are available on every browser. These are frequently not even made by GameFreak and are instead fan-made ones. They can take on the form of a replica of its console games, aiming to give players a similar experience, or use its franchise to create something entirely different- puzzles, pinballs, and such. Here are some fan-favorite Pokemon games online free ones:

Pokemon Revolution Online
PRO is probably the biggest available online Pokemon MMO. It is non-profit, fan-made, and unofficial. It was made in 2014 by Shane and his colleagues. It offers features such as an extensively developed battle system, with many exclusive mechanics, such as IVs, EVs, Natures and Abilities, four available regions (Kanto, Johto, Hoenn, and Sinnoh), six generations of characters, in-game chat, events, guilds, bosses, PVP and much more. It's available on every platform that can access its servers through internet browsers.

Pokemon: Indigo LeagueThis game was made to simulate the first season of its Pokemon animated TV series, holding the same name. It has similar features users find in all other console games- with a fixed plot they are supposed to go through while leveling up Pokemon and battling different trainers, eventually taking their place in this Pokemon League. It's available as a ROM hack, meaning it can be played on GameBoy emulators to imitate real console ones.

Pokemon Red and Pokemon Blue Slots
Pokemon Red and Blue is the very first set of console games, made in 1996 by GameFreak. It's the first in this franchise, and it introduced all of its mechanics that have been expanded over the years in new games. You'll be able to catch and train 151 characters from its first generation, with classics such as Charizard, Pikachu, or Eevee. As its previous one, it's currently available in the form of ROM hacks, giving the chance to return to its 1996-exclusive experience.

Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire
Pokemon Pinball: Ruby and Sapphire is a continuation of the spinoff game Pokemon Pinball, and Jupiter Corporation made it in 2003. Here, players can use two flippers to shoot their PokeBall to find and catch Pokemon from its original Pokemon Ruby and Sapphire games. Rack up as many points as possible and experience various random bonus stages. It is available as a ROM hack and can be played using GameBoy Emulators on both mobile/PC.

Pokemon Games DS

Nintendo DS, or NDS, was the most popular console to play after GameBoy. Developed by the same company that owned its franchise, this console was perfectly suited for all current Pokemon games. The most known feature was Dual Screen, a screen on both parts of its console, allowing it to show much more content/options at once. There have been many games made for this console, and the most popular of them are:

Pokemon Black 2 & White 2
This is a pair of sequel games for the Black & White Pokemon games, released by Nintendo in 2012. It is set two years after the events of its first Black and White ones, with players exploring Unova once again. It's set in its 5th generation, featuring Pokemon such as Kyurem or Reshiram. It offers the typical console gameplay, with users leveling up their team and taking on progressively harder trainers up to its Pokemon League. It's currently available via ROM Hacks.

Pokemon HeartGold and SoulSilver
These two are remakes of their respective gen 2 games- Gold and Silver. GameFreak made them, and Nintendo released them in 2009(Japan) and 2010(the rest of the world). They take place in its 4th generation instead allowing the trainer to revisit Johto and expand on its storyline. Like their original counterparts, these provide storyline-based single-player gameplay centered around collecting/training Pokemon and using them to battle opponents to conquer evil organizations and the Pokemon League. They include exclusive legendary ones such as Kyogre, Latias, or Groudon. They can currently be played by using GameBoy Emulators/ROM Hacks.

Pokemon Diamond and Pearl
A pair of games are also part of a core console Pokemon game. They were developed by Game Freak and published by Nintendo in 2007 all around the world. They take place in the Sinnoh region and include characters from its 4th generation, such as Dialga or Palkia (its two legendary Pokemon on the game covers). These ones offer a usual core single-player gameplay, allowing users to lead a team of up to 6 characters, level them up, and upgrade their stats, battling various trainers along the way, with its ultimate goal of reaching Sinnoh League. It's currently available for play via ROM hacks.

Pokemon Puzzle Challenge
Another great example of a popular spinoff game. It utilizes Tetris-like mechanics sewn into a pokemon-themed game. Its goal is always to score as many points as possible before you fill the screen with blocks, with slight variations available in each mode. It was developed in 2000 by Intelligent Systems and published by Nintendo. It is set in generation two, featuring monsters such as Chikorita, Cyndaquil, and Totodile. As with its previous, this one was originally played on GameBoy Color and is now available in the form of Rom Hack and played on GameBoy Emulators.

Pokemon Dash
One of the few unique racing games set in the universe of Pokemon. It was developed by Ambrella and published by Nintendo in 2004/2005. It was the first one to be developed specifically for Nintendo DS. It's set in its 3rd generation and features Pokemon such as Munchlax, Lapras, and, most importantly, Pikachu. Users control this little electric mouse to win each race by crossing its finish line first. Each course has obstacles/power-ups, allowing users to gain the upper hand. It offers Single Player Mode, playing against CPU, and Multiplayer, which can hold up to 6 users. It can be played as a ROM Hack.

Pokemon Ranger: Shadows of Almia
This is the second title of the "Pokemon Ranger" series. It was made by Creatures, Inc. And published by Nintendo in 2008 globally. This time, its action takes place in a brand new region Almia, with 4th gen such as Munchlax available. To progress, players must stop the evil Team Dim Sun. Additionally, many optional quests are aimed at helping the citizens of Almia. Its ranger will choose their partner and, with his help, conquer those obstacles in unique ways. This game is available on GameBoy Emulators by using ROM Hacks.

Pokemon Trozei
This puzzle game is a part of its generation 3 side series of Pokemon games. Genius Sonority made it and was later released by Nintendo in 2005 (Japan) and 2006 (the rest of the world). Here, instead of regular training, users will attempt to conquer Pokemon-styled levels, all in a Tetris-like fashion, with blocks looking like Pokemon falling down the screen. Like all other similar Tetris-like games, this one features different modes, such as Endless Mode, Forever Mode, Battle Mode, or Pair Mode, allowing for multiplayer. It also has a feature of completing the Pokedex, which is achieved when users complete the matching symbol of each Pokemon. This game is currently available to play as ROM Hacks.

Pokemon 3DS Online Games

After popularizing 3D technology, Nintendo developed its console, allowing players to view 3D graphics without needing 3D glasses. This was done by autostereoscopic. This new console premiered globally in 2011, and naturally, the process of making 3DS Pokemon games began. These, although different, all had one universal quality- they all utilized 3D graphics to the full. This production of 3DS consoles ended officially in late 2020. Here are some of them:

Pokemon Rumble Blast
This game, also known as Super Pokemon Rumble, is the second part of its Pokemon Rumble series. It was developed by Ambrella and published by Nintendo in 2011. Like the Pokedex 3D, it was available in the eShop sometime after release. This part was based on its 5th generation of Pokemon. Like other parts of its series, this game is an Action RPG based on exploring different areas room by room and defeating your opponents. There is also a shop where users can buy companions of different kinds. It can currently be played on 3DS emulators as a ROM Hack.

Pokemon Dream Radar
This very interesting game can be said to be the prototype of its now well-known Pokemon GO. It was released many years before it, in 2012, by Nintendo. Creatures Inc. And Game Freak developed it. It was based on gen 5. It was released on eShop, a store exclusive to the 3DS console. With it, players could use its console's gyroscopes and outer cameras to encounter, battle, and catch Pokemon in augmented reality. Every item and Pokemon obtained this way could be transferred to Pokemon Black 2 and White 2. It is no longer available on eShop, though it can be played as a ROM Hack.

Pokemon X and Pokemon Y
This 3DS game opened a new generation - the 6th one. It was developed by Game Freak and released by Nintendo in 2013 as a part of its IV-gen core series. Its action is set in the new region of Kalos, where players have to finish a narrative once again to eventually conquer evil and become the best trainer in all of Kalos. Pokemon X and Y introduced many new mechanics: Mega Evolution, Horde Encounters, Super Training, Pokemon-Amie, and 8-directional grid movement, as opposed to its classical 4-directional one. 72 new characters were introduced, including legendaries such as Yveltal or Xerneas. This one can currently be played as a ROM Hack.

Pokedex 3D Pro
This app can be considered an upgrade to its aforementioned Pokedex 3D. Instead of displaying just the Pokemon available in Unova, this application acted as a National Pokedex, displaying data regarding all the first 649 Pokemon that existed when this app was published. Like its prototype, this app could display its basic stats, cries, and full 3D models. Additionally, there were some extra ones whose data was obtainable only after users completed special quizzes. They included both forms of Meloetta and Genesect. This app will become unobtainable after its discontinuation of eShop for 3DS in 2023.

Pokedex 3DThis wasn't a game, as much as it was just an app available on the new eShop on 3DS. It was essentially an Unova Pokedex, displaying data about all 153 characters from Pokemon Black and White. This app lets users search for essential info about different characters, as well as see their movements or hear their battle cries. It allowed users to view their favorite, famous Pokemon in 3D, fully revealing their appearance for the first time. Additionally, by using an internal camera, players could scan these Pokemon and place their renderings in the real world. Although now unavailable on the eShop, this app can be obtained as a ROM Hack.
